Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1: Windows

1 Answer

Dear Sirs, I've got "TOSHIBA A-300" laptop with Vista Home Premium. By advice from Toshiba TEMPRO I made an update of BIOS to version 1.90 03/20/2009. After this a Hibernate function (when I close the Lid) has been lost. When I tried solution KB920730 in Safe Mode, I got the following text: HIBERNATION FAILED WITH THE FOLLOWING ERROR: THE REQUEST IS NOT SUPPORTED. THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE PREVENTING HIBERNATION ON THIS SYSTEM. THERE ARE ONE OR MORE LEGACY DRIVERS INSTALLED:VGA SAVE. AN INTERNAL SYSTEM COMPONENT HAS DISABLED HIBERNATION. Your advices to adress "dmitnov@rambler.ru" will be greatly appreciated. Faithfully yours Dmitrij.

You need to rollback your video driver.
A updated driver for your video card, or on board VGA, has messed with your system.

  1. Right click "Computer"
  2. Click "Properties".
  3. Click "Device Manager"
  4. Go to "Display Adapters"
  5. Right click on installed video card or the like.
  6. Clck on "Properties"
  7. Click on the "Drivers" tab.
  8. Navigate to the "Roll Back Driver" option.
  9. You'll be prompted to make sure it's what you want to do. Click "Yes".
  10. Restart the computer.

Let me know if that helped!

It sounds like you updated with the wrong BIOS or a BIOS version that isn't designed for your specific model laptop. You will have to revert back to your old BIOS version.

Toshiba Laptop - Startup freeze 40% of the time.

its a common thing for a vista based system to freeze after some updates , and my good advice to you is you better dont place too many applications on the startup , and avoid unwanted updating , ie8 is one such thing . if u have an option better switch to windows 7 , its really fast on notebook computers . install only defender updates from windows.

Toshiba 5005-s504 bios update

the most appropriate bios version can be found on support.toshiba.com for US model or toshiba.ca/support for Canadian model. If the install from windows wont run, i think your os is a 64 bit windows vista. If you do have a 64 bit vista, try this solution. Downgrade to XP then update the bios. it will do work. Then reinstall again the OS 64 bit vista. Its quite bit long but it will eliminate the use of cd or floppy disk.
