Question about HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook
...and in doing so,sometimes it will highlight a line of text. This has happened only recently. I thought it was because the num lock was on (it just jumped to the third word typed. It's a DELL (it just highlighted everything and I had to use Cntl+Z to get it back... DELL XPS M1530 running Windows 7 Ultimate. (I went through the beta testing). I LOVE WINDOWS 7. It is going to change the face of Windows and MS forevever. (Really hopped around there. It normally (Win7) fixes itself, but not his problem. I don't touch the touch pad and use a logitech wireless mouse. Some say turn off the touch pad (just hopped again) but I'd rather leave it on in emergencies.
I'm sure you've been told that sometimes static electricity from your fingers can effect the touchpad even if you believe your finger (thumb) to be far away from it or hovering well above it. I created excess static electricity by unconsciously (and continually) rubbing my feet on the carpet underneath my desk.
I completely understand the desire not to turn off your touchpad (turn it off in the bios by the way, but you may have already known that...), I felt the same way about one of my laptops, the touchpads can really come in handy. Although, you may wish to consider turning it off to check and make sure that that is not the problem, before continuing to look for alternate answers. If it's your touchpad, you will have to go through the decision I had to make - that ultimately it was better because it was not cutting into my productivity and driving me crazy. I hadnt run into a situation where I needed my touchpad for an emergency, I only turned the touchpad back on when I took it away from my house, when using the external mouse proved unnecessary.
