I have a HP Compaq nc6320 laptop and i've recently reformated my hard drive thinking that i have a boot disk, but unfortunatly that's not the case and boot disk is nowhere to be found. Is there any way around this problem? Perhaps someone knows of any boot disks that are available online and that's for HP? Is the boot disk the only way to install your OS back onto your laptop?

1st of all you have to make sure your hard disk in enabled in system setup. maybe f2 when you boot. go into hard disks and see if your hard drive shows up. then boot priority and make sure your your hard drive has a check next to it because the check means its enabled. if not then it looks like you might have a bad hard drive. you can try to purchase a usb enclosure and install your hard drive inside, then take it to any 2.0 usb pc or laptop port and see if you can retrieve any important data then do a full format and install it back into your laptop and install windows again
Download the HP Format Tool and install it. Get your boot disk or the downloadable files and copy/extract them to a folder on your HD. Make sure anything on your USB Drive is backed up because we are going to format it...
Open the HP Format Tool Start/Programs/Hewlett-Packard Company/HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool It should automatically select your USB Drive. Select FAT or FAT32 Under File System. Select Create a DOS startup disk Select using DOS system files located at and point to the folder containing the boot disk files. Then click Start

if your computer has a floppy drive and you have inserted a disk, remove the floppy disk and try booting again. if this is not your case you can try out a couple of things 1. Check the CMOS of your computer To do so - Boot your computer and on the manufacturers logo window press F2 or Delete depending on your computer. - In the bios check for the availability of a hard disk drive under the storage category if it exists look for the boot order window or menu. check i your hard disk is enabled for booting in this page. - If all the other methods do not work and your OS is Win XP you can reinstall it in repair mode. Otherwise it would be better to visit your nearest service store.
You are missing boot file for windows to start. If you have a recovery disk, insert it and follow the on screen instructions. If you do not have the reocovery disk, you may need to reinstall windows or contact someone who can reinstall the boot files for you.

I had the same problem. This is how I reset my password on a compaq or hp nc6320. 1. unplug the power cord 2. unplug the battery 3. take two screws from the ram cover on the back of the laptop (see youtube for this step) 4. open the keyboard 5. unplug the cmos battery cable (very easy to do) 6. plug power cable and turn on the laptop 7. laptop would erase passwords. 8. put everything back together.
