SOURCE: Depth Sounder does not display depth

I will see if I can get mine off the hull for testing. Still have found no procedure. Thinking about just replacing the sounder with another unit.

SOURCE: My Garmin depth finder/gps combo

YOUR TRANSDUCER MAY BE SET FOR HORIZONTAL MODE...MEANING FROM BANK TO BOAT, NOT DEPTH...CHECK THE TRANSDUCER TO MAKE SURE, IT IS AIMING DOWN, NOT OUT...OTHERWISE YOU'LL NEED TO CHECK YOUR MODE SETTINGS IN YOUR MENU.

YOU CAN ALSO DO A TEST ON YOUR TRANSDUCER, BY SCREWING IT ONTO A BROOM STICK ...ADJUST THE TRANSDUCER DOWN, CHECK YOUR SETTINGS ON THE SCREEN, THEN DO A SIDE TEST WITH THE TRANSDUCER TILTED SIDEWAYS TOWARDS THE BANK AND CHECK YOUR SCREEN!

THEY CAN BE TRICKY...AND ARE VERY SENSITIVE, BUT ONCE YOU FIGURE OUT, HOW YOU WANT TO USE IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT!

HOPE THIS HELPS!

My fish finder does not show correct depth of water

Make sure you transducer is sitting level with the bottom of the boat. Follow the transducer cable down the line from where it plugs into your unit. There should be a tag on the transducer that says which model the transducer is. Go into "setup" in your settings and make sure the correct model of transducer is chosen.

What can i do to stop the flashing of the depth finder at times it will not show the current depth

Hey Joe,
Wow.. where to start.. there are so many things that will cause the issue you are describing. What type of electronics do you have? Does this happen at all speeds? Where is the transducer mounted? I need more info about when it stops reading.
1.Wrong setting on the unit
2 Bad transducer
3 Bad transducer mounting (either inside the hull or outside the hull.)
4. (In hull) Turbulence going under the boat (mine quits reading at about 55 mph @ half trim...the boat is lifting so much it causes air pockets so the transducer loses contact with the water)
5. (Outside hull) Turbulence around the bottom of the boat where the transducer meets the water.
Good luck,, when you get the info.. reply to me..

Transducer is throwing up a large Rooster tail.I installed it to instructions

Might help to tell us what kind of boat - deep V hull 22 ft.? bass boat with shallow V hull? Some need the transducer closer to the centerline of the vessel while others do better more outboard, Naturally they need to be flush with the hull no matter where they are located. Depending on the transducer, you could also try properly mounting it inside the vessel near the transom. Good new is you are getting good info from it. Cheers Pete

Hello, our Raymarine ST40 depth sounder on our trailer sailer has stopped working only shows 0.00 depth on the display screen. However the metres symbol now flashes on/off. I have checked the cable...

now there is a chance that the transducer is bad ,, but I would check the battery voltage and make sure you have a soild 12 volts to the unit. also in my many years of working with and installing these units on boats I have see the needle pins ( where the plug inserts in the back of the display unit ) bend and/or break off completely. look in the plug area of the display unit and make sure all pins are intact. one more place to look for the problem is in the plug itself, take the plug apart and inspect the wire connection and make sure they are all good. if after all the above has been checked then I would assume that it is the transducer itself.
if you have anymore questions with this problem, please feel free to write back and ask,

Sonar does not appear to work - not picking up depths or bottom structure. All other functions look good.

This problem is most likely linked with your transducer.

1. Check your transducer cable and make sure the plug terminals are clean, as well as the plug on the back of the unit.
2. Make sure the transducer cable is plugged in correctly and securely.
3. Make sure the transducer is in the water and mounted according to the directions, parallel to the bottom of the boat
4. Turn the unit on while the boat is in the water, but with the engine OFF.

IF it works when the engine is off, but vanishes when the engine is on, you may be having electrical interference.

IF it works when the engine is running, but vanishes when the boat is moving, it is a turbulence problem. Move the transducer.

IF it does not work at all, try borrowing a new or a "known good" transducer and seeing if it works then. If so, replace the transducer.

Let us know if these work or now.

Transducer on LCX 18C works intermittently

Is your boat trailered or docked? I would try cleaning off the transducer and readjusting it.

Lowrance depth finder missing adapter cable

I own a 1995 Four Winns and what you need is a Lowrance LSM-1 depth finder unit. It accepts the two pin lead from the transducer and send the depth reading to the dashboard display via the 6-pin connector. There is also a three wire harness (red/blk/wht) that connects to a power supply.

The reason I know all this is my depth finder fried a couple years ago so I removed the Lowrance LSM-1 from the boat in order to find a replacement. Unfortunately, this was an OEM part that is not available from Four Winns or any aftermarket source. Probably your best bet is to look in a boat salvage yard or purchase an aftermarket depth finder.

Sonar not working properly, intermittent

Generally, that indicates air bubbles in the water under the transducer. If you have a transom-mount transducer, make sure the bottom surface is level or angled slightly down. If you have a thru-hull, make sure your bottom is fairly clean in that area.

Unit showing 88.8 in the LCD window.

Hello geld1. Your problem is the transducer, cable or connector. Check transducer with an ohm meter, flex the cable while ohming the restance shouldn't change. The location and mounting of the transducer could be the main problem. Use the the correct gel film including a secure postion support.
