Thank you bill should I be using synthetic oil in my harley for the year it has only 16.538 miles on it .I heard they sell high heat spark plugs should I use them as well when I get mechanic to fix my bike all over again . I would take it else were but he was already paid . I am not paying another mechanic . Thank you for your help

A lot of bike manufacturers recommend a synthetic oil but that is something you should talk to your local service dealer about
high heat plugs ( plugs with longer ceramic insulation around the centre electrode) are only used for worn oil burner engines and if you wanted to use a cooler plug ( short ceramic insulation) that would be a better option but I would prefer to used standard plugs
again talk with your service dealer about the correct plug heat range to use

I suspect that the engine tune up was not well done as a hot running motor after a carby overhaul indicates that it is running too lean
could be possible carby to manifold gasket failed or leaking or the carby bolts not tight
could be incorrect float level or the air /fuel mixture screw not adjusted correctly
if the carby has a solenoid near the mixture screw then if that is not working properly ,the motor will "run on" after the ignition is turned off as the pistons will still be getting a charge through the idle circuit that is being ignited by hot spots in the cylinder.

SOURCE: need to know what fuse runs the turnsignal flasher

The 1997 Sporty did not use a turn signal flasher unit. It uses a turn signal control module instead. This module controls all turn signals and four way flasher. It also performs the "cancelling" function once the time limit has run out on the flashing process. It's a "black box" about 1 1/2 inch wide by 3 inches long by about a 1/2 inch thick. It gets it's power from the Lights fuse 10 amps. If you contact me directly, I can scan you a wiring diagram and e-mail it to you. [email protected]

SOURCE: 2007 harley davidson xl sportster 883 speedometer

If you're lucky it might be the speed sensor located in the gearbox casing. This is a hall effect device and is magnetic and so can pick up metal fragments from the inside of the gearbox. I have a 2001 Sportster and the Sensor is located on the top of the gearbox casing, just below the starter. I'd expect it to be in a similar position on a later bike such as yours, but I can't be sure. Once you've located it, take it out (can be a bit fiddly) and make sure that its clear of any debris. If not the sensor, you're probably going to need to substitute in a working speedo. Be careful because a pre-2004 speedo is electronic, but is not compatible with 2007 bike. Best of luck!

Remove the carb soak in carb cleaner, **** out small bleed holes with a wire from a wire brush etc. One of the passageways is still clogged, or the float is sticking.
