AGS 2310 Kohler 12.5 engine Runs fine for an hour then quits and won't start for another hour

Look for a fuel filter, an if you find it, replace it.

change your air intake element and also clean your spark plug.

change the oil to the correct specification first. As the engine runs the heat changes the viscosity and overheats or trips the oil alert switch. If its over 10 years old change the oil alet magnetic switch

ags is automatic gas shut off. laars are notorious for the flamesensors crapping out

run it with the gas cap loose the vent might be plugged then check the pump

This may not fix your problem but it does deal with that engine. I just tried to replace the spark plug in that engine and it took me 5 hours. The Kohler plug in the engine that came from the factory cannot be found in traditional stores and it is a strange size, 11/16 or 12 mm. The Kohler plug is #1413211. I could not find a match in a book. Divine intervention lead me to a place where they were fixing the Kohler 149cc engine that had the same plug in it that mines did. I discovered that a Champion 8815 does fit the engine but it takes a 18mm socket. It did fix the problem and the mower works. Hopefully this will save someone my hassles.

common problem with these engines are the ingnition modual located under the coil packs!

If it has a couple hundred hours or more, try cleaning the slips rings on the back of the rotor shaft. They should be very shiny and not black or polished looking.

Can't search for a manual without model, type, serial, etc numbers...

A few things to take a look at:

1) Oil level / pressure sending unit. This is normally bypassed as long as the start switch is pressed. When engine starts, and switch is released, engine will die if sending unit is defective, or you are low on oil.

2) Exhaust temperature sensors. Older units were notorious for burning these up.

3) Cooling Water Temperature sensor. These cause trouble often, but mostly due to water pump impeller being eaten away by galvanic action and not able to pump water as effecively. End result is water temp higher than normal, which trips the switch, which kills the engine.

4) Alternator (generator) output not as it should. If output doesn't rise to proper level within a few seconds of engine start, the engine will be shut down.

5) Choke not working as it should

6) Bad fuel, bad fuel pump, clogged fuel filter.

check the vacuum line from pump to crank case fo leaks
