My dyson v6 stopped getting power to the motor tools. none of them will spin. help

I emptied the canister and when i put it all back together no power would get to any of the power tools. i wonder if it has anything to do with the connection prone or not because it still has plenty of suction.

SOURCE: Dyson has lost suction and loud noise from base(?),

I had the same problem, from right out of the box. Now that I just threw mine out, I see this site that indicates there's a fix for it:
http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/cleaning/msg0415060828462.html

And search for other sites isung "dyson grinding" or similar.

Since I was an early adopter (had one as soon as they came stateside), I did not have the benefit of countless others having the same problem, I just attributed it to a junky design, since so much else about this vacuum was poorly designed, like the seals, hoses, etc.

Give them a call, and good luck! I might rescue mine from the heap and do the same.

With the DC14 in its upright position, and looking from the back, there is an access hatch just to the right and bottom of the dust canister. Remove this and check for any obstruction. With the hatch still removed, tilt the handle back (as if vacuuming a floor), and you should spot that the mechanism in to which the access hatch fits changes over from one hole to another. This is how suction is transfreered from the telescopic arm to the brush bar when the unit is taken out of the upright position.
With the handle tilted back, the hole you can see is one end of a flexible pipe that leads to the brush bar. Check for any blockage and/or foriegn objects. If there is no obvious problem, you'll need to check the other end of the pipe. You can do this by removing the toe plate on the bottom of the brush bar area. The plate is held by 3 or 4 half turn fasterners - a 5 pence piece is ideal for undoing these.

If still no joy, the only other thing it might be is that the brush bar isnt spinning - this isnt actually lack of suction, but without brush rotation any upright hoover is far less effieicnt at picking up bits from the floor. Brushes not spinning on a DC14 is quiet a difficult thing to fix on a DC14 as there are two separate rubber belts, one of which is hidden under a plastic cover. There is also a clutch mechanism between the belts that can cause problems some times.

It sounds like the motor is functioning properly and the filters are fine. Check very thoroughly for clogs in the parts after the canister (down where the brush is, etc.)

Have a Dyson v6 for several months. Roller brush stops turning a soon as I start to push forward after staring trigger. Examined & cleaned roller & surrounding head & find no objects interfering.

The Dyson V6 has an electric motor in the power head. The battery is in the handle unit. So power has to get from the battery head unit down to the motor at the floor roller brush. The way they do this is to send the power around the plastic debris cup that you empty, and then into the connector for the tube and out the bottom of the tube to the roller brush motor. Your problem is probably that there is a lost contact along the way. Try plugging the roller brush directly into the head unit leaving the tube out and see if it is intermittent or if it runs fine. In that case the problem is one of the contacts associated with the down tube. If the roller brush is intermittent even when plugged directly into the head unit, then the problem may be the connection associated with the debris cup. remove the cup and make sure the contacts are clean. Hope this helps. G

My Dyson v6 with purple dust container, power surge whilst vacuuming and then it stops all together even though it's fully charged

Hi Sally, it's Jack at Dyson.

Your V6 machine will pulse to let you know if something is preventing airflow from passing through the machine. This could occur if there's a blockage in the floor tool, wand or bin inlet. It's also worth checking the bin inlet flap can open and close freely, and isn't jammed shut with debris.

Our video guide should help get your machine up and running again:

My v6 absolute the heads no longer spin, have checked for blockages and tried another head no luck?

Hi Julie, it's Jack at Dyson.

I've made a quick video for you, showing some simple troubleshooting checks you can try. These should help you resolve this. You can view your video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuB_ku6B_wg

As mentioned in the video, testing the floor tool directly on the machine will help determine if the issue is with the wand. If the floor tool still won't work when you attach it to the machine, check the contact pins on the clear bin and on the main body, and remove any fluff or debris. This will make sure power from the main body can reach the motor in the floor tool which powers the rotating brush bar.

I'm confident this will get your V6 machine up and running again. But if you do need any further guidance, it's easy to get in touch. Just contact the Dyson Helpline directly by calling 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), or 0800 298 0298 (UK).

My Dyson V6 is 3 days old. It worked great Day 1 & 2. Now it seems like the motor "surges" on and off and on and off so I can't use it properly. The canister was barely full but emptied it anyway.

Hi Christy, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your Dyson V6 cordless vacuum is pulsing on and off, this will be due to something preventing airflow from passing through the machine. Once you've checked the floor tool and wand for any blockages, the next thing to check is the bin inlet, as well as the bin inlet flap. It's possible some debris could be jamming the inlet flap shut. I've made you a quick video to help you with some further troubleshooting, and I'm confident this will get your V6 up and running again.

Dyson power head stops but can be started immediatly

Just had the same problem. Took apart whole power head to look for broken wire and found none. If you see part way up the hose there is a coller with 4 torx screws holding together. This collar is a swivel that allows the hose to spin without twisting or kinking. Take the 4 screws out and open up. You will see 3 contacts that look like fingers that rub on 3 mating steel rings. Wipe the tips of the fingers and wipe clean the rings. Gently bend the fingers out wards so that they apply more pressure to the steel rings. Reassemble and try. Should take no more than 15 mins. Worked for me good luck!

I have checked the machine for blockages, none found. However, the machines turns off after running for about one minute. Any ideas?

The electric motor inside your Dyson has a built in over-current trip to protect itself (and you if it seriously overheated and caught fire). This normally automatically resets itself, however if the motor has just about had it, next time it is switched on it just trips again.

The primary cause of motors overheating is that the filters are not cleaned or replaced frequently enough. Dont be fooled by Dyson's "lifetime filters". They need to be regularly cleaned and replaced when necessary.

Replacement motors are avaible on eBay for about £25, however repalcing one requires good DIY skills and tools.

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com and see if you feel you can tackle it yourself. If not, take it to a repair shop or call the Dyson helpline.

My dyson animal sweeper just stopped running

Take it to your local vac shop and let them diagnose it. You are within warranty so if it is clogged warranty will not cover that, but everything else warranty will cover.
