Question about Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop

2 Answers

Installing RAM I purchased RAM from Crucial .com and I can not open the RAM bay on my Acer Aspire 3680. I removed teh 2 screws and started to remove the door.  It came off about 25% and feels like it is going to snap if I keep going.  There are only 2 screws.  Any advice?

I had the same problem with that particular laptop, all you have to do is take it slowly side to side, there are clips holding it in place, if you take your time it will be no problem

Are you are sure you are removing the correct cover for the RAM? Most of the laptops I have seen have only one screw on the cover. There are usually tabs on the oppsite end of the cover from the screw, and sometimes tabs also on the sides I have seen some covers that you have to pop loose after removing the screw, on these covers you would think it is going to break.

We have an aspir e3680 that only shows 502 ram. We have a printer that needs 512 ram to operate. What are the solutions?

According to these specifications, you can install more memory in this laptop. Unplug it, remove the battery first. Remove the access cover on the back which is held in with a small screw. You should see two slots that memory chips slide in to. Additional memory can be purchased over the internet or at retailers like Wal-mart, Best Buy and Office Depot. Hope this helps you. If you need more help, let me know.

I need to replace the keyboard on an Acer Aspire 3680 series laptop

Hi there.
Remove the laptop battery and the AC power supply, open the lid as far back as you can take it.
Get a small flat headed screwdriver, now, you have to take off the keyboard bezel, this is the strip of plastic above the keyboard with the power button on it, the best way to remove it is to start by the on/off button by gently prying the bezel up from the lid hinge, once you have one side out gently pull it up using your fingers, it will unclip and lift away.
Next you have to remove 2 screws from the top of the keyboard, these should be visible to you, once the screws are out carefully lift the keyboard up, you will see a ribbon cable that is connected to the motherboard, gently pull the tab up on the connector that the ribbon cable sits in and it should release it and you can now remove the keyboard and replace it.
To re-assemble just follow my direction in reverse.
Please post back with the results and for any additional advice if needed.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Ram Memory

I did this 2 days ago on my gf's aspire 5315-2153 (walmart special $348). the underside panel has four tiny screws which must be removed and then the fun begins. The plastic panel is large and doesn't want to be removed. After 20 minutes of cursing, i was able to get it out with two hands and a small screwdriver. The plastic panel has about 7-8 tabs which also hold it in place. The original two memory modules must be removed and the two new ones installed in their place. i bought crucial memory from (CT2KIT12864AC667) for $17 delivered (took a week to get) which was much cheaper than buying it direct from Save the old memory modules just in case you have a problem with the new ones. After putting them in, I restarted the computer and it booted up fine. No BIOS changes or any of that were necessary. So for $17 and about 30 minutes, this lappy is now running strong with 2gb instead of 1gb. Initial impression is that it boots up faster and shuts down faster but that is about it in terms of improvement!!!

Acer l100 memory upgrade

I just attempted this, and I must say that there are many things about the other solutions that just plain wrong. Here is my step-by-step:
  1. Choose your RAM. Use the memory advisor from Crucial to tell you which ram to use: I used their PC 5300 2*1GB kit. You can RAM from any retailer, as long as it is the same type recommended by the memory advisor.
  2. Lay the case flat and remove the screw in the middle of the top plate at the back, then slide the top plate off. You will probably have to break the warranty seal to do this.
  3. There are three black clips that hold the front bezel onto the top section. Prise them upwards and the bezel will come away.
  4. There is a black screw on the motherboard near the back, holding down a piece of metal attached to the top section (drive bays). Remove this screw, then pull gently on the plastic handle on the top section to loosen it.
  5. Lift the top section so that you can pull the power and IDE cables from the hard drive at the back, then lift it fully upwards. Be careful of the ribbon cable underneath, you may need someone to hold it up for you while you change the RAM.
  6. To remove the old RAM, do not simply prise it upwards as someone else said. The RAM slot has a metal clip at each side; push these outwards to the sides until they click. This releases the RAM so that they can be lifted out.
  7. Slide the new RAM into the bays and push it down to lock it into place. Make sure both sides click properly.
  8. Reassemble the case in reverse order, taking care to get everything stowed away in the right place. Take care remounting the front bezel to make it is properly in place before clicking the tabs back on top.
Hope someone finds this useful. By the way, while i can in there I noticed an empty expansion bay: anybody know what this is?
