Question about Dell Inspiron E1505 Notebook

Battery won't charge on my Inspiron E1505

I bought an aftermarket battery for my computer. The battery worked fine for awhile, but I cleaned my computer out and completely reinstalled everything. It seems that ever since then my battery will only charge to about 5% and won't charge any farther. I have to leave the power cord hooked up all the time and as soon as I unplug it, the laptop dies. Sometimes when I turn it on, I get a message that the computer doesn't recognize the power cord, but it is the one that I got with the pc. Any suggestions? Also, I am showing only 54.4GB of hard drive. I know it is much more. It is partitioned, but how can I solve this and will I lose everything on my pc? Thanks.

The battery problem could be due to a bad ac adapter or a loose motherboard connector. Try another good known Ac adapter and see if it works. For the partation issue in XP do a right click on MY computer and go to MANAGE and a computer management screen will open. Under computer management go to disk management. Chech for any unallocated space. If you find any unallocated space you can do a right click and create a new partation. You wont loose any data in this.

Check your power adapter. Check its output voltage and current. I think your problem caused by the insufficient current that needed to charge your battery. If it's the problem, you need to buy new power adapter. ^_^

Battery will not charge. The battery is new, verified on another laptop and it works fine (takes a charge). Unit works fine when connected directly to AC. The laptop is a Dell inspiron E1505. How do I...

This isn't easily done. Have you recently replaced your power adapter for any reason. I've found that some laptop batteries won't charge if the charger is just slightly different from the original one, even if it's another Dell power adapter. If you haven't replaced the power adapter recently then it may be that your female power jack isn't properly seated or soldered into the motherboard. To reseat or resolder the jack with require you do completely dismantle your laptop. If you're not confident it doing this, then don't try it yourself. Also, resoldering the jack isn't as easy as it would seem either. Before doing any dismantling, remover your battery, turn on your computer and gently wriggle the adapter around in the female jack of the computer. Does your computer shut off on you? If so, then you definitely have power jack issues. See madhattercomputers.com

Battery test shows that it is fully charged, but

There is a possibility that the battery has a damaged or faulty surge protector. This will make the battery work at random times. This is not a fixable issue outside of replacing the battery again.

Return the battery and get them to send you another if possible.

New aftermarket Inspiron 6000 battery will not power the Laptop

I would say that the power management portion of the system board is probably faulty if it behaves the same with both the factory battery and the aftermarket.

Many systems have the charge controller and battery interface on a separate board but unfortunately on the Inspiron 6000 it's integrated.

FYI, Here's a copy of the service manual for that system: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/index.htm

Dell Inspiron E1505 won't recognize new battery

It won't charge or work correctly if it's not the correct one and of the right voltage etc.I don't know how the battery even went in if it's not the Dell specified battery. If it went in and looked to fit maybe the battery itself is bad but its hard to say.

No battery charfging light.

While the notebook is TURNED OFF completely, try rubbing some isopropyl alcohol on the leads within the laptop that touch the battery with a cotton swab, could be that the leads are dirty.
