I can connect other items to it, and also the player can be charged by those same USB ports. I am on instant messenger with pidgin @ testnickspringer if you would like to contact me there to get a quicker back and forth.

Sorry, and the OS is windows xp sp4 (or maybe 3, whatever the brand new one is that came out right after vista)

  • nick_springe Jul 12, 2009

tried that earlier as I figured it might just be a driver problem but nothing shows up there like what you described. Under "universal serial bus" I get a bunch of "usb root hub" and standard openHCD usb host controller" and one "standard enhanced PCI to USB host controller". Also I have a flash drive that will connect through the exact same port. Plus I can charge the device with this cable and USB port. Any ideas?

Oh and I also went through the page you listed earlier before getting on fixya and it didn't help at all for some reason. And I forgot to tell you nothing says "USB Mass Storage device or Portable Device" or has the yellow triangle with the exclimation point.

Hi,
Can you please let us know the Operating System you are using on the computer. Failure to connect can be due to a variety of reasons. Most commonly it is due to a faulty USB data cable, or the USB port on the computer is faulty or slow. You can rule out this causes by connecting some other device to the USB port on the computer and see whether it connects or not.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks.

    Hi,
Good, that rules out any error on the part of USB ports. Now connect the player and check in the device manager of your computer to see whether this device is recognised by PC or not. To open the device manager: Right-click on MY COMPUTER icon on desktop>select properties>Select Hardware TAb> Click on device Manager. See whether the list of Hardware connected displays the player. It will be shown like: USB Mass Storage device or Portable Device.

Also see for any yellow Quastion Marks or Red Exclamation mark in device MAnager.
    Thanks

    Ok.
Try to connect the device in MSC mode. Please try this steps to connect:

    1) Turn player OFF.

    2) Slide the Hold switch (on the left hand side panel) down to Lock (orange color showing).

    3) Press and hold the Center button while connecting the player to the computer.
    4) Open My Computer to the whether the player is connected or not.

Hope this time it will work. Thanks.

Sansa m230

When connected to your computer, go to your My Computer folder, and right click on your Mp3 player. You should see "Format Device". This wipes the entire thing. All music will be gone, but it might reset it.

Turns on and then off.

I had the same problem. Just had to re-format.

On PC:

Find your player in the list under "My Computer", then right click and select "Format drive".

It should now work.

If you're on a Mac, try plugging the device into a PC. This should format the player.

Good luck!

Scan disk sansa c200 series locked with an error message

Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.

Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx

To fix it, format your Sansa. I had the exact problem. Plug it in, then in "My Computer" right click its icon and hit format. Do not select quick format. Then it will be fixed.

Error message: Not enough space for music DB. Please free 4MB.

Hi I have just bought a Sandisk Sansa M250, we loaded som music on it and it lasted 2 hours, then it the message came "Not enough space for music DB please free 8 MB". I couldnt even go in to the menu. I contakted Sandisk.com and 24 hours after they came up with an answer. If it's currently frozen, hold down the power button for 20 seconds in order to soft reset it. Let's try to format the player (THIS WILL ERASE ALL FILES FROM THE PLAYER). Plug it into your computer, then open My Computer, right-click the drive associated with the player, and choose Format. It may give you a choice of file system, if so, choose FAT (it may only let you choose FAT32, which is fine). Now click on Start and it should format the player. If not already done, please also update the firmware from this link: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1368 The 20 seconds on the power button didnt work, but the formation did. Hope this helps. //Cadmann Please bear with my english
