You did not mention the age of the drill machine, normally the life of any battery does not last more than 3years, maximum, so if it has crossed the limit then change the battery- Vikram,India

Most of the batteries sold with these tols are poor quality. They start losing their charge-holding ability very quickly. IMO the best solution is to get (try Battery World) a "repacked" battery. It will cost a lot [over A$100] (compared to what you paid for the tool plus charger plus two original batteries) but trust me, the repacked one will be loads better and last longer last longer. Personally I wish theat they sold better quality upfront, but the market obviously dictates the prices.

I am on my 3rd battery in 2 years so age is not the problem. I barely use the thing, but need a new battery again.

My Black and Decker Drill and Hand Saw have brand new battery pack and brand new charger to BE SURE battery is fully charged but still don't work

it is probably the brushes on the motors are wore out or stuck and not making contact. pretty much junk unless you feel confident enough to attempt repair.

How do you know when a black and decker battery's life is over

Normally when it will no longer hold a charge, that is, no matter how long you charge it, the battery goes flat very quickly. This happens sooner with Ni-Cad batteries than with Li-Ion.

Short battery life

Batteries have a limited lifespan, typically 3 or 4 years for lithium, more for NiCad and NiMh , and their capacity between charges decreases over the years.
To extend the lifetime of a battery it should be run completely flat after every few charges rather than topping it up. This is essential with NiCads. New batteries need to be charged several times and run flat under normal use before they gain their full capacity.

I purchased a new charger for my Dewalt Cordless drill and the red light just blinks. Is this normal

They usually have a little pic on there that tells you what the blinking means. I think it is charging, but sometimes it needs a green light too. Check it out. Mine flashes all kinds of signals, when it hits a dead battery, one that won't charge, it flashes something else. It only takes an hour to charge. Is the battery getting charged at all? Hope this helps.

Batterys dont keep there charge i think the batterys need to be replaced

before you dump those batteries, check the charger. If the battery when charged runs the tool but dies out quickly then you are probably right. If the battery never seems to be charged at all, then it may be the charger.

I have a 12v xrp cordless drill. in the past 6 months i have purchase 3 new batteries. none will hold a charge. what is the problem.

You may want to try a different charger base. Any way you can borrow one so you don't have to purchase first?
If for some reason the charger isn't working well, you may be getting a partial charge and only that.

You may even want to rent a cordless just to try charging your own battery on a different base.
before you buy.

Won't charge fully

If your warranty has expired, you're best off buying a new drill. Replacing batteries will quickly add up to the cost of a new drill.

I know they cost a lot more, but, if you want something that will last a lot longer, look at a Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, Bosch, Hitachi for your replacement. Milwaukee actually guarantees their LiIon batteries will last 1,000 charges or longer.
