Question about GE GSS25JEMWW Side by Side

Frozen Freezer Coils

Have a GE side by side, the coils in the freezer compartment continually freeze up, does not appear to me that a defrost is cycling, the refrigerator does not stay cold, I have defrosted the coils several times, by unplugging, but within a week we are back to the totally frozen coils. Is there a defrost sensor, timer, or perhaps the heater coil being a problem.

The freezer is not working properly. Measured temp at almost 40 deg. Have cleaned coils and vacumned fan grill. Some items are frozen, but newly added do not freeze.

Check for any frost on the inside, probably the back, of the freezer compartment. If there is any, either the defrost heater, defrost timer or defrost termination thermostat is bad. Need your model # to continue.

Freezer works great, fridge not cold. about 60 degrees in fridge. had repair man look at the fridge, said the mother board, was bad. panel inside freezer iced uped. fridge seem to get better for about 2...

And you are posting because,.......????? You are looking for a second opinion? Don't like the repair estimate?
1. Your freezer is not working great. If it is frosting up, frozen packages will soon beging to soften also.
2. All of the cooling takes place in the freezer compartment. A fan blows air over the coils in the freezer, and directs some of it into the fresh foods side to cool it. When the coils become blocked with frost, the air can no longer flow into the fresh foods compartment. Result is warming of FF area. You may also see freezing in the bottom FF bin, water dispenser not working, FRZ section warm, etc.
3. Manually defrosting the coils will temporarilly solve your problem, but it will reappear in a few days to a week or so. (depending on door openings, ambient temp, etc)
4. The motherboard controls the defrost interval and (although not the most common) certainly can be a cause of defrost failure. If a qualified servicer diagnosed it as such, it most likely is just that.

The coils on my ge gss22wgpd bb side by side keep freezing up . IU can defrost them manually and the freezer and fridge work fine again.

This has happened in my GE side-by-side (model GSS20IEMDWW). For me, the problem was caused by a faulty temp sensor in the fresh food side. That sensor never signalled the computer that the temp in the fresh food side was cool enough, so the compressor ran constantly.

Since the compressor was running constantly, the evaporator coils (back wall of the freezer compartment) eventually iced over (took about a week). Since the fan that draws air over the evaporator coils could no longer move any air (due to the icing), the temperature in the fresh food side continued to climb. (The fresh food side is chilled through a hole with a motorized door at the top of the dividing wall, so if no air is moving in the freezer compartment, temps in the fresh food compartment climb.)

I replaced the temp sensor in the fresh food side and solved the problem for a while. About six months later I had the same problem again, so I replaced both temp sensors in the freezer compartment - which solved the problem again. (My fridge is about seven years old.)

If you are going to replace any of the temp sensors, replace them all under the principle of "if one failed, the rest will soon fail too".

This site has schematics of various appliances, including the model number you provided...

Your model appears very similar to mine - in the "Fresh Food Shelves" section of the above site, the sensor is diagram number 242. In the "Freezer Section", the sensors are diagram number 241 and 243.

Amana side by side keeps freezing up.

there is a thermoistat that turns on the fan when the coil get cold enough so that it doies not send hot air into the freezer compartment after the defrost is done. that could be the problem
