Re: no picture

Their seems to be a lot of problems with the ps 3 and they are all basically the same most of the problems are due to the unit over heating i dont think they thought about this properly when making the unit as alot of them are having this problem if you have only had it 8 months it should still be under warranty so take it back and they will replace it for you if the place you got it from wont do this then you need to contact sony and tell them of the problem dont try taking the unit apart yourself as their is nothing you can do to fix the problem as the unit will need a new board as they are all seem to be getting fried this is happening alot if you tell them that you know people who have same problem eventually they will have to address this problem the should replace the unit for you sorry their isnt nothing you can do because it is hard to get hold of spares for these and they can be as expensive as a new one have you tried holding doen the on button untill you here a couple of beeps this resets the console if this dont solve your problem then get in touch with sony a quick as poss as taking the unit apart will void your warranty hope this is some help to you

I have a new ps3. It works great on my hdtv with an hdmi cable The problem Im having is I want to hook it up to my older tv that does not have an hdmi port. I tried using the av cable supplied but I cant...

Follow these very simple steps:

Step 1.

Turn the Playstation 3 off into standby mode (red light on)

Step 2.

Press and hold the power button. The console will beep when you first press it, then beep again 5 seconds later. Let go of the power button when you hear this second beep

Step 3.

Wait for the Playstation 3 display to initialize.

Your Playstation 3 should now display properly and you can get back to your gaming!

Hope this tip helps you out.

Iam not able to get a picture from my hdmi cable, but can still here sound. tried three different hdmi cables... please can you help...

1. Your Connections Are Faulty

Quite often, the cause of the no picture problem is a simple one - loose cords. Make sure that the cords are plugged in tightly, both on the TV side and the PS3 side. This is especially true with the HDMI cable connection on the PS3. Often, it looks tight, but you still might need to wiggle it a bit more to seat it correctly. Along the same lines, make sure that the cords you are using are new and match the connections properly on both the TV and your console.

2. Wrong Connection Settings

If you are using the HDMI/DVI cables and you don't get any picture, make sure to check your video ouput settings. If your PS3 thinks you are using standard A/V cords to connect to the set, you'll have issues. The opposite is true too - if you are using the A/V cords and your PS3 thinks otherwise, you'll have the same no picture problem. Make sure you settings match the types of cable connectors you are using.

3. Wrong Resolution Setting

This is also an easy mistake to make that can result in no picture showing on your television screen. For example, if you've been using your PS3 with an HDTV and then try to hook it up to a standard definition television set, you'll encounter this issue. The cure is simple; just go into your settings and switch back to standard resolution and then restart your system. The 720p resolution is the default setting and this should work for most standard definition televisions.

HDMI green screen

1-HDMI is available in several versions. The PLAYSTATION 3 is compatible with HDMI version 1.3 or higher, which will take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc™ high-definition video. There are also "Type A" and "Type B" connectors. The PLAYSTATION 3 uses the 19-pin Type A connector, which will allow resolutions up to 1080p.
The HDMI cable is not included with the PLAYSTATION 3. If you are using an HDMI to DVI converter, you may wish to remove this adaptor.

2- The resolution output (i.e., picture quality) of the PLAYSTATION 3 will depend on three factors:
The type of cable used and the inputs available on the TV or display monitor.
The maximum resolution the TV or display monitor can support. The PLAYSTATION 3 can output two types of resolution: HD and SD. Refer to the TV or display monitor's owner's manual to check which video modes are supported.
The maximum resolution programmed into the source material (movie or game). Refer to the software packaging for information on maximum resolution details or contact the publisher directly.

3- Try connecting with the supplied AV Cable instead of the HDMI to see if you can get a successful installation. This will help determine where the problem may be with your particular HMDI setup and/or equipment.

4- Disconnect any coaxial cables at the point closest to the television. Signals sent through coaxial cables may cause interference with the sound and picture outputted from the PLAYSTATION 3 which results in buzzing and humming noises from your display and speakers.

Rocketfish hdmi no sound

Have you tried another cable? Try this one from Amazon:
For future reference there is no difference between a 70$ hdmi cable and a 5$ one unless you are going through walls or over 25 feet.
