Viking Dishwasher leaves a film on the dishes

My wife tells me the dishwasher leaves a white residue on glasses and table ware. She has reduced the soap (cascade liquid) to one teaspoon per load and still the problem continues. She ends up hand washing everything after running a load. The file does come off when hand washed. I turned up the water temp but that did not help..

- Back in Nov of 07 I started this issue. I subsiquently had my water tested. I discovered the water here in Riverside, Ca is over 11 parts per million (VERY, VERY, hard). As a result, I was told to fill the soap contianor to MAX and "add vinegar" to the jet dry container 50%. Now I have no more white film and the dishes come out very clean.

- I was told by my local applance shop that our water is very, very hard (11 ppm). He said to use max amount of detergent and 50-50 vineger in the jet dry dispenser. Since doing that, no further problems.

-   I outfitted my entire kitchen in Viking...a cooktop, double oven, microwave, wine cooler, refrigerator and yes...that damn dishwasher! It is horrible. It is a shame that Viking even puts their name on it. I had someone out to fix it three times and it is still not working well. I can't believe that I have had it for only 2 years and I am going to end up replacing it.-   Guest

-   We have the exact same white film on everything.  It  doesn't rinse off, either.  And you can taste it.  I haven't found a solution.  Wondering if it's worth the cost of repair or if it's time for a new machine.  We've had this one for 5 years. The problem started about 4 1/2 years into it.-   Guest

-   We had the dishwasher with NO Residue for almost 2 years. Then out of nowhere--or as if suddenly out of warranty the FRIGHTENING FILM appeared. It is unwashable, impervious to self-scrubbing, as if an alien coating from another PLANET! I had long heard that Viking makes a shitty dishwasher--and now I'm CONVINCED! Resolution: Buy WHIRLPOOL. (P.S. And we wonder why or where from we get CANCER!)-   sicktodeath

-   I have a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner dishwasher that's 6 yrs. old. I have very hard water and no watersoftener. For
the past 2 months, my dishes have a film on them. I soaked my glasses and silverware in vinegar. It helped but the film came back. I keep the rinseaid holder full and don't know what else to do. I use Palmolive liquid dishwasher detergent. I ran vinegar through the dishwasher to see if that would help and it didn't. Help!-   Guest

I've been reading up on this because my dishwasher has done the same thing. I'm not so sure it's the actual machine, but the kind of water that is used in your city. I have read that the water temp. should be between 120 & 145 and that you should put vinegar in the jet dry container. I'm going to try this with the highest of hopes because who wants to wash their dishes TWICE? :(

there is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. it is specifically designed to solve these problems. it filters the hard water before it goes in the dishwasher. it is very affordable and you can get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com. you will love this product.

I have had the same problem and have been very pleased with the results of a product called LemiShine. I haven't tried the vinegar in the jet dry container yet, but for those who have and it hasn't worked, try Lemi Shine. I found it at Target

I am having the same problem after 6 years problem free use with my dishwasher. It has the correct amount of soap, jet dry... water supply has not changed. Film does not come off even after hand washing.

This happens to us, also, if there isn't enough salt in the water softener or if the rinse agent runs out. Ours is a Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner IV.
