Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

1 Answer

Err 02 When i switch on the camera the EOS appears on the lcd screen other than that it is blank. After a while an error 02 appears (CF card fault). I have tried previously working cards and they all do the same. The manual says re-format the card but as the lcd screen is blank, this is not possible. The battery is fully charged. Is this a problem with the camera or the card.. My gut feeling says it's the camera.. Please help, Thanks...

Where would I find a technican to look at this, a camera shop locally?

The CF pins are not bent or moved, however one seems to be bent in the middle but that way on purpose maybe?

I recharged, and tried a brand new card so I dunno.

Hope my pics are still on it...

Hi,

If we talk about Error 02 - This error occurs when image data cannot be written to the CF card. This error can occur when the CF card is not fully seated in the camera or if the 350Ddoes not detect a card-ready signal within a specified time limit or when the CF card is not usable because it has been corrupted or physically damaged. It can also occur when the camera's battery level is insufficient to completely write the file to the CF card.

Usual Remedy :- Use the DC Coupler or recharge the battery first. If the error continues to occur with sufficient power available to the camera, check that the CF card is properly inserted. If that's not the problem, then try replacing the CF card. If that does not solve the problem, have the EOS D350 and one of the CF cards that is causing the problem examined by a qualified service technician.

Usually if the screen appears Blank, it might be Camera's fault or a combination of Fault. ( Both Card and Camera ).

Try to update the firmware and then see if it will fix the issue. There is one solution that is offered by customers who are facing this problem:-

Actually upon review after your email I discoverd one the pins in the camera were bent just a tad bit, so after I adjusted the pin and reinserted my card- the camera is good as new.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Hi,

For repair, i would advise you to contact Canon.

The link where you could request for repair is :-

    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/contro...

However, they do not entertain repair requests for all models. If you cannot request via the above mentioned form,

    Contact them at :-

    1-800-OK-CANON

    Now,

Regarding CF card, Try to upload all the data into PC using Card
Reader. If you have already formatted the CF card, use some recovery
software . It's not 100% effective but atleast help you to retrieve few
    pictures.

That bent middle one might be an issue, though seems Very less likely. This is a common problem as we discuss with Cannon EOS Digital systems.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Check that the pins in the camera that connect to the CF card are clean and not bent. You will probably need a good light and a magnifying glass to see into the card slot. If you can see a pin that is bent you could try straigtening it. BEWARE- turn off camera and use a non conducting "stick" ie cocktail or toothpick. Not sure for a Canon but a colleague paid £40 for a new pin assembly for a Nikon with similar problem.
Hope this helps.

Error reading on screen on 1000e

Hello :

Here is what Canon said according some forums :

To isolate the cause of the issue, we suggest that you do the
following:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Remove the lens, battery, and CF card.
3. Allow the camera to sit without power for approximately 20 minutes.
4. Insert a fully charged battery, and turn on the camera.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If it does, then the camera should
be serviced. If it does not, then please proceed to the next set of
steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Insert the CF card.
3. Turn on the camera.
4. Format the CF card in the camera.

Does the "ERR 99" message appear? If so, then the CF card is the most likely source of the issue. Try using a different card.

If the message does not appear, please complete the following steps:

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Clean the lens contacts by gently rubbing them with a pencil eraser
or soft cloth. Be careful that you do not let any debris fall into the
camera body.
3. Reattach your lens.
4. Turn on the camera.

If the "ERR 99" message only appears when one particular lens is
attached, then that lens should be examined by a service technician.

If you see the "ERR 99" with a different Canon lens attached, then the
camera should be serviced.
I hope this will help .

please don't forget to rate !

err99 is a generic error code that the camera cannot identify to a particular component.

One thing to try is to switch off, remove the lens and clean the gold contacts on the camera and lens.

This is a common cause for err99 and in a lot of cases cures the problem

Try to use your CF card in another camera. It will let you know if your problem is with the camera or the CF.
