ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Before you connect the camera to the computer, install the drivers from the cd which came with it.

You need a USB port on your computer. You don't say what computer you have, but most recent Windows PCs have USB ports. Some Macs may not have this port.

The USB lead for you camera should have come with the camera. The socket on the camera is a miniature version, and wont take a standard size USB plug. If you don't have this cable you can find one on Amazon by searching for "Olympus 8000 USB".

Using a USB lead, you shouldn't need a driver or other software. The computer can recognise the camera memory as a removable drive without actually recognising the camera as a camera. Try looking in "My Computer" for an extra drive (Under "Devices with Removable Storage") and opening that. There should be directories with picture files in them that you can drag to your desktop.

Many people find it more convenient to just take the memory card out of the camera and put it in a card reader, especially now that these readers are built into computers and printers. You can't get the pics from the camera's internal memory that way though.

Try with different USB ports in your computer. It must be having more than one USB prots.

does ur camera have a sound card and does your computer have a card reader, if so you can download your pics right onto the computer, if not you can purchase a card reader that hooks to your computer. if your usb cable doesnt work maybe try a different one or a different computer maybe the usb port has gone bad. on the computer

Try opening the Kodak software first, then turn the camera on. I've found that you need the Kodak program to transfer the pictures from the camera. I personally do not like this, my old camera (also Kodak) would act like a plane old flash card/removeable device, this new one doesn't.
Anyhow, I find it super easy to just take the SD card out and pop it into the media slot in my printer. Then just open explorer and it's there just like any other hard drive or CD/DVD drive and transfer them to where ever you like.
If your printer or computer doesn't have a slot for SD cards you can get one that plugs into a USB port, pretty cheaply at any store that sells computer products.

Hook the camera up to your USB port. If you'll look under "My Computer" you should see a listing for your camera. Double click the camera and select all the images. Go under "File" and select "Copy", then choose a directory on your computer and go to "File" again and select "Paste" and this will copy your images to your hard drive, no additional software needed other than your Operating System...

The USB port on the camera is to download still pics from the Camera's SD Card to your computer. USB connector is not for video downloading.

For video downloading you have to use FireWire port. Your computer must have a FireWire port too. You will need some sort of video downloading software - like Microsoft's MovieMaker. There are some free software to download videos from mini dv camcorders to computer. It takes 1Hr to download 1Hr tape - you have to play it all to record it all.

3yrs ago when I purchased this cam, I did not have FireWire port in my computer. I searched online a lot and found a way to download video using USB - it was tough, complicated. It was possible, but quality was too bad and too many dropped frames.

If you do not have firewire port, google for FireWire PCI Card, should be <$10. You have to install it inside your PC. Also search for FireWire cable ($10+/-) that will match BOTH camera and PC ports.

The cable is not causing any trouble by simply being connected to the PC end. Remove all the camera drivers prior to reinstalling the software you downloaded.
