Question about Maytag SkyBox MBV1976A Beverage Dispenser
My Skybox MBV1976AAB is not cooling. I took the "relay" off the compressor and it did make a rattling sound and pieces fell out.The part number on it says 307015. When I call Maytag they say this part number is for a vent panel now and did not have any part named relay switch? Tried partselect.com and they sent me a transformer could not find the part I needed. Does any one know Where I can find this part? Thanks
Hi, Relay switches can be found easily on amazon, take a look here: Check out TRENDnet latest products. Wish you best of luck.

I just ran into this problem on a friends Skybox. It would not cool, took apart and checked start capacitor... checked okay. I was about ready to diagnose the problem as the compressor itself, then I took apart the little white connector that plugs directly into the compressor itself. Inside this white, 3 prong connector there is a little round resistor plate. It was cracked up and fried. Both sides were craked and allowing the electricity to pass directly through the resistor, cause the start cap not to work at all and causing the thermal overload to trip out after a few seconds of a no-start. I temp fixed this by turning the round resistor, which now looked like a rectangle, to fit between both sides of contacts. Hoped this helped!

My maytag stopped cooling and we could hear a clicking noise from the rear of the unit. I replaced the relay that I purchased from a local repair shop, sixty two dollars, but had the same results. I called another repair/parts dealer and he suggested putting on a quick start kit, thirty one dollars with tax. I put it on and the compressor started and has been running correctly since. Fridge temp is about forty and freezer about eight degrees F. Don't know how long this will last but I had to find out if it would work at all. Our unit has the freezer on the bottom. This is a generic part so I can't give you a number.

OMG!!!!! My compressor just went and the tech informed me it was non replaceable!!!!! They forgot to tell me that when I purchased it at over 500 bucks. C'mon people let's get together on this and make Maytag make good on these!!!!! They had no problem taking our money. Why should the consumer always be left holding the bag. Any lawyers out there? I'm sure there are enough of us. Go to the store where you purchased wearing a t shirt extolling maytag's virtues while browsing through the large appliance department. Someone will notice and hopefully buy you off! lol rose

I hope it's just the relay. My skybox quit cooling also, what happened to mine is the compressor would not start, I unplugged it, plugged it back in, it hummed for a second and tripped a reset, it would just keep doing it .I called an appliance tech, which by the way I am on a first name basis with on this skybox. He didn't even have to take his coat off or open his toolbox to tell me the compressor is shot and it is a sealed non-servicable part, and even if it could be fixed it would be at a cost more than I paid for the skybox. I called Maytag (Whirlpool) hoping they have a guilty conscience over these skyboxes and would extend the warranty to no avail. The customer service rep informed me that the compressors on these are made by Haier (the cheap Chinese refrigerator people) and it was designed as a throwaway unit. So after more than $700 invested in this thing over the last 2 years I cut my losses, shot it a few times with a 12 gauge and threw it away. Oh by the way the tecnician then gave me a bill for a $72,95 service call.

I just paid $160 to have the relay replaced (tech charge + part). just wanted to add my 2 cents...if the compressor goes, it's pretty much a throw away at that point, unless you are willing to do it yourself.

I just read another post on a different site from someone who said they were able to pay $160 for a refrigerator technician to come out and replace the compressor and install 2 additional fans to help prevent overheating. I'm going to look into this, otherwise off to the dump. Had ours for over 2.5 years and it just stopped cooling last week. Bunch of warm beer and sodas in there now...upsetting, but what do you expect when everything is made in China these days. Our country has let itself down for letting quality manufacturing give way to cheap labor.
