Question about Denon D-M50S CD Shelf System
HI there, my Denon UD-M50 cd changer has gone wrong - tray stuck out and althought motor seems to be trying to draw it back in it gets stuck. I've located some instructions on the net as to how the trays should sit in the drawer, but have to confess that I can't see how to extract the tray from the unit. I have the unit open. But there seems to be one screw on the cd changer down the side I can't access, unless I need a special type of screwdriver! I'm a total novice but willing to give it a go if I can get this unit repaired. Can anyone tell me how to extract the CD changer drawer? THANKS!
If you are still having the same problem with your denon UD-M50 I might be able to help. I have fixed a number of them in the past and have the necessary maintenance manual and knowledge of a company that can supply spare parts. Disassembly looks very complex, especially when the problem is with the carousel but once you have an understanding of the mechanism it's not that difficult. Care should be taken when manually removing and reloading the disc trays as damage can result to the 'Teeth' alongside each. Spare trays are available. All my repairs involved the removal of the carousel mechanism in order to align the trays. I can copy the relevant sections of the manual dealing with the re-alignment which is critical but again if followed exactly you should have no trouble. If you respond with an Email address, I will be only too pleased to forward you the schematics etc.

I have a DM50 that has now this same problem. Have disassembled to the CD changing mechanism. Would appreciate service manual or pages that describe the alignment process.
Many thanks in advance.

I located an american website www.user-manuals.com
They charge $14.99 (£7.50 ish) for a PDF Download of the UDM50 service manual plus 000's of other models & makes. Website looks kosher but not ordered yet.
trust this helps.

Sure, I can help.
I have the same problem with the DM-50 carousel. I disassembled the unit last night. Very poor design. There are a lot of electronics afterthoughts that make disassembly very tedious.
However to extract the mechanical mechanism from the faceplate and the rest of the unit requires this general process. Before you get started, make sure to ground yourself to eliminate any static electricity that might destroy sensitive chips on the boards.
- the faceplate is constructed in two sections: aluminum exterior and silvered plastic mounting interior
- locate the two retension clips on the upper ledge of the plastic (between the copper foil grounding strips)
- as you depress these clips - it might require some gentle finagling as the plastic buttons and various contours get in the way - it will basically free the aluminum
- underneath you will see two mounting screws that secure the mechanism to the face
- before you remove, take care to disconnect the CD transport output lines and the main circuit board ribbon.. among others, I don't remember possibly
I hope this is complete enough. Be very careful, the unit is full of cross cables and messy wiring.. looks like Denon doing fixes to save money instead of redesigning altogether.
Please, if you can help me locate the service manual or other diagrams instructing how to reassemble the carousel, Please let me know. I would greatly appreciate!
