Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
Please help! After troubleshooting and totally disassembling the console to investigate any internal problems, I have discovered that the Port 1 controller is bad. (port 2 still working) Question is..can this port be changed out on a slim like the fatter PS2 version or not??? The problem the kids are having is some games need port 1 controller to start and scroll menu. Anyway to fix this or do we need a whole new board?? Thank you.
Yes this port be changed out on a slim like the fatter PS2 version it is a complicated work and should be done by an expert technician only otherwise the tracks on motherboard will be spoiled.
One thing be sure before changing the port you check it if this port is physically damaged then only you can proceed otherwise you please compare the working voltages on all pins with your port 2 and sort out the fault because sometimes +5v supply missing or any diodes connected on port is short which can be the reason for this fault.

Does the light come on? I am assuming you do not get anything on the TV screen. How did the Ribbon get a hole in it?
Get parts for the PS2 reasonable from Ebay.I do not want to venture a guess wihtout more info.
Repair charges for a PS2 Slim at the Playstation Clinic range from $25 to $75, where if it needs more work than $75 can repair, it is totaled. www.Playstationclinic.com
