Have a 22hp husqvarna mower 54"deck motor has a miss when I go full throttle or half throttle in thick grass and blowers out black smoke like it is loading up on gas. What is my problem

Well, the simplest cause is a plugged air filter. Insufficient air with the usual amount of gas causes a rich, smoky mixture. Clean the air filter and make sure it isn't clogged with grass clippings.

How to adjust carburator Jeep Wrangler 4.0 258 of 1991

While engine is turned off.Screw shut both fuel and air mixture. Then each screw turn open 2 and half turn or some times 2 full turns.that should give close enough mixture .then switch engine on and make sure idle at 10rpm for auto and 6 rpm for manual. Then adjust screws lightly to your needs constant check rear exhaust for color of smoke if black it\'s too rich in fuel and if it\'s a farting noise coming out of the exhaust it\'s too lean. The sound out of the exhaust should be running continues and no missing.

My Sears tractor has white smoke pouring out of it right after starting. It is fairly new,, some 217 hours on it.

Answer to your question is this,if this keeps up smoking,i would check the carburetor fuel filter, for signs of gas collected up in the filter. If there gas you need to adjust the carburetor,by adjusting the fuel mixture. The carburetor uses both fuel and air mixture. To much fuel(Rich) floods the carburetor, too little fuel(Lean),there is more air than fuel. You will have adjust the carburetor's needle valve to receive the correct balance between the two. To do this check the carburetor for a slotted screw, take a screwdriver. Turn the screw in to get a lean mixture, turn screw out to get a rich mixture. After making your adjustment, start the tractor,if not already running. Watch to see if it is still smoking,if it is, adjust the needle valve screw in more until the smoking stops, also keep watch on the filter for gas,in the filter assembly. This is not where your gas needs to be. I need to inform you to also,to be sure that the air filter is cleaned up(No Gas Accumulation in the filter) -This is a must do to possibly, keep from having a (FIRE). When making fuel adjustments,i would check the spark plug(s) for carbon deposit building up,that would cause the motor not to start,or run smoothly. Anyway,be SAFE,your dealing with GAS. Is a 1998 95th anniversary harley davidson softail springer have a carburator

Hi Anonymous, on the right hand side of the carburator there is an idle adjusting screw with a spring behind it, turn screw clockwise to increase idle counter clockwise to decrease idle. There is also an air/fuel mixture screw inside a carb body lug that may or may not be plugged with an aluminum cap that's about 3/16" thick. This cap can be drilled out to acess the air/fuel mixture screw. Turning screw clockwise will lean out mixture and lower idle, turning screw counter clockwise will richen mixture and raise idle. You need to balance the two adjusting screws to obtain an idle of 950-1000 RPM then back out air/fuel mixture screw 1/4 turn, snap throttle to confirm responce, you may continue to back out air/fuel mixture screw untill desired throttle responce is achieved, if you see black smoke coming out of exhaust you have gone to far and need to turn screw back in 1/8 turn at a time, final adjustment should be made with the engine at normal operating temperature. Good luck and hace nice day.

My trimmer will start but will not stay running? Fuel mix is correct, I can adjust the throttle screw to keep it running but it still stalls out after it gets running. what else can I do to repair this...

You may have a fouled carburator. Also, check the spark plug for signs of fouling (Black and oily). The plug should look grey and have a somewhat dry appearance. Try using a carburator cleaner first, and if that doesn;t do it you'll need to overhaul the carburator itself.

Murray 4.5 hp Q lawn mower runs rough and smokes.

White smoke indicates that it is burning oil. The smoke would be black if it was running rich. So probably the rings will need to be replaced eventually. These mowers are prone to problems but the carbie is least likely to be the problem. So before you adjust the carbie take the cover off the top and give it a good clean and check that all the hoses are connected and are not cracked. Then make sure the airfilter is clean, blow it out with an air compessor or better still get a new one. Then try it out agian. If this doesn't help there is two screws on the carby marked L and H. Turn these only 1/8th of a turn at a time and note or make their current position. Start with the H scew with the mower at full revs. Turn anti clockwise untill you get max revs then turn it back a bit. Running too lean will over heat the motor and damage it. Then if needed adjust the L (or Low)screw. If you get black or grey smoke when you push the throttle up from idle to full its too rich so turn clockwise. If if slows before it picks up to full revs turn anti clockwise.

Briggs and Straton 18 HP engine, misses, with black smoke

Ive only caught round four so I dont know what all youve had done. I do know if you have blue/black smoke from your muffler, and oil in your air filter, youre getting blowby, and should probably check the head gasket and get new rings.
