Question about HP Pavilion ze4400 Notebook
I received an HP Pavilion ze4400 for my 16th Birthday (about two months ago). Everything was working fine until it started to overheat and power off, no problem. I bought a cooling fan, and the issue was solved -- Until early yesterday (July 10th) morning. It had overheated (after about 10 hours of NO use) and shut down. I waited for it to cool off before coming back. When I pressed the power button nothing happened. It doesn't start up, at all. NOTHING happens, not one single thing. I've been told by websites that my motherboard is shot. After only two months of use I hope this isn't true. PLEASE HELP!
With the motherboard constantly overheating that is a sign that the motherboard is bad because that means its not regulating the voltage properly and too much is going thru which is why it gets hot even though the fan is working.
There are some steps you can take to verify this though.
Only plug up your ac adapter and leave your battery unhooked and see if you get video that way.
If you don't then unseat and reseat the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time and turn on the laptop after each stick reinsertion. If you have an extra stick of known good memory then you can try it in each slot to see if you get video. You want to make sure its not a memory or memory slot issue.
If you don't get video this way either then go ahead and remove the dvd drive and then the hard drive.
If you still don't get video then you know for sure that the motherboard is shot and it would need to be replaced to fix the problem.
