Could be your fan is full of dust and the heat sink of the cpu making it overheat. there is a vent where it would blow the hot air out. if your not getting air flow the vent might be clogged

I have a 1999 Cadillac Deville and my engine fan quit working. How can I tell if it's a relay or my fans?

If you make a jumper wire and jump the load side of the relay and the fans work, it might be the relay or it might be the control side of the relay not getting the signal from the temperature switch. If you jump the load side and the fans don't work it's either the fan motors or a wiring issue between the relay and the fans.

My car 2008 Chevy Uplander warning light came on stating A/C shut off for engine protection. My question exactly as 1posted 2011. Gauge not Reading. Fan running continuously. Doesn't seem hot.

What gauge not reading , Temperature ? you posted back in 2011 ? You did feel you should take it to the repair shop ? You need to take this to a ASE certified repair facility ! This is a complex electronically controlled cooling system , Three relay's controlled by the ECM -engine control module turn the fans on in two different speeds ! There could be DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes stored in the ECM, HVAC module , BCM !
Circuit/System Description
The engine control module (ECM) commands the fans ON in high speed or low speed. In low speed, the fans are configured in series. In high speed, the fans are configured in parallel.
In low speed operation, the ECM applies ground to the coil side of the low speed fan relay, which is the Fan 1 Relay. Voltage is applied directly to the left cooling fan through the switch side of the low speed fan relay. The right fan is connected in series to the left fan through the de-energized Series/Parallel relay, which is Fan 2 Relay, so that both fans operate at low speed.
In high speed operation, the ECM applies a ground to the coil side of the low speed fan relay, the Series/Parallel relay, and the high speed fan relay, which is the Fan 3 Relay. Voltage is applied directly to the right cooling fan through the switch side of the high speed fan relay. The left cooling fan obtains voltage through the low speed fan relay and ground through the Series/Parallel relay.
When the ECM is commanding a fan relay ON, the voltage of the control circuit should be low, near 0 volts. When the ECM is commanding a fan relay OFF, the voltage of the control circuit should be high, near battery voltage.
One of the relays could be stuck on ! An for the gauge you have to have it removed an fixed , there is a stepper motor behind the gauge needle an they go bad ! Or replace the instrument cluster !

Blower motor stays on when the switch is off

switch is bad and get ground from some where before the switch selector,so it does not matter ,what speed you choose,

all switch do is for lower speed send the voltage through resistor,
waste some of the voltage in form of heat,so fan don't get max power.in return, it turns slower

A/C cuts out if fan on max. speed.2000 Mazda MPV fan very slow in 1,2,3 but powerful in 4. However a/c works in 1,2,3 but with fan on 4 it cuts out and won't restart. Obviously the fan resistor

sounds like a fault with the switch unit for the fan ,to know for sure i would need the offending vehicle in front of me take the switch out and have a play ,also of course threaten it with the lump hammer but all joking apart its difficult to diagnose without a play to determine exactly what the problem is

How do I remove 1996 honda accord heater fan switch? I'm not sure if I need a new switch. Heater fan works only on high speed "4"

if the fan/motor only works on max No 4 setting ? then may i suggest you have a resistor fault or commonly known as a reostat in uk this is the component that provides the relevent reduced speeds on selection but when it fails only max speed works so you should find this unit attached on heater fan exterior if you follow wires from actual motor it will connect to the resistor unit ? then onward to switch control it is not to difficult diy and if you have access to manual/ it will give location/access for renewing? hope this helps/inspires you to diy ?

No heat unless set at max temp. setting.

Hey Summers,, Are you running the A/C with the temperature set at max heat?? If yes. STOP... the A/C is for COLD air..As far as the fan speeds not working....you may have a fan switch that is going bad..(my vehicle is doing this!)..
