Just insert it, it must have plug and play.
If it doesn't starts automatically, Go to:
my computer-> cd drive -> try opening files there.. if it doesn't open, give us the complete filename(with extension).
it'll be better if you provide all filenames

Hi when i try to copy my pictures to a cd i get as far as click cd drive and click copy then i get a pop up that says D/ is not accessible incorrect funtion. i am not very good on this lap top and dont...

It would seem to me that you should select (highlight by left click on) the pictures you want to burn to the CD and then right click on the pictures. When the right click menu pops up, left click on Copy. Then, right click on the icon for the CD drive and click Paste, which would transfer the picture to the CD.

They do wear out and break, sounds like an older model. A new DVD/CD burner can be bought for about £15.
You could try a different ide cable from the motherboard, and that the cables are connected properly.
Give that a try before you look for a new one

Unable to install XP OS to MSI lap top

Insert your installer to the lap top then try to change the boot up priority by entering the bios. Try to press del key while your lap top boot. If these deosn't wok try F1 or F2 thesame process. If you have enter the BIOS, look for the boot priority which includes the First Boot, 2nd Boot and 3rd boot. Change the 1st boot to CDROM and the 2nd boot to hardisk. Then save the changes by pressing F10. your PC will reboot and it will direct you to the OS installation.

Will not burn a cd anymore, trying to burn a cd of pictures, keeps saying insert a recordable disc, I AM, they are all new ones I put in!

Try the "new" disks in another computer.
Or, try "new" disks made by a different manufacturer.

I suspect that your CD-drive has "died".
So, for less than $50, you can buy a brand-new CD/DVD device for a desktop computer.

you might have bought a blank dvd that is not compatible with your dvdrw.
