Your harddrive has failed or your operating system has crashed.
You will have to either run a repair disc (windows 7 installation disc or whatever Operating system you had installed on it before) or get your hands on a new installation disc and install a new operating system. Either that or take it to a computer geek in order to have them reinstall the operating system for you and hopefully, recover all of your files.
This isn't a bios setting, it's a setting that Compaq put somewhere (probably the MBR) of your OS to only allow it's restore discs. If you want to use straight Windows XP OEM discs, just boot to the disc and you'll be able to install Windows. If that doesn't work, just format your hard drive(you'll lose everything) then boot to the XP and install that way.
learn now,. that no 1 virus cleaning actions works even 1/2 the time once infected.
its like driving car with flat tire to store to buy a new tire.
impossible or just all bad news end to end.
that is true. even running 10 AV scans can fail. ask any one that had to do this for years, yah
there is only a few real cures. that are 100% effective.
from 100% to least effective order
1: HP magically F11 key, back to day 1 recovery, do that?
2: buy the HP media kit, (above is missing before 2006?) and install your unstated OS fresh.
3: use MS media and spend a week fining lost drivers.
4: remove the HDD and put in on other PC, as 2nd drive.
or better external usb drive case.
and run 10 AV scans on it, the top 10 brands, one is ESET offline scanner.
those are the ropes
the F11 recovery fails if :
A: someone deleted all files on PC and loaded MS OS.
B; the HDD was ever change out.
C: or if super unlucky the virus infected the F11 partitions, too.
you are infected still or has aftermath.
F11 key , and pick startup repair.
if this fails do full recovery
if that fails see step 2 above.
You need your original installation disc(s), or start up the machine and hold down the f8 key and then, 1st boot on the last known good. 2nd, reboot holding down the f8 key and then try the restore method. Most machines have a 4 to 10 gig partitioned on the C drive which holds your restore partition. Else, if you have the orginal OS disc, put it in your cd reader, it will come up with the start up screen for installation. when you get to the install window say OK, then when the window comes up you should have a choice of intalling new or repairing the hard drive ... repair the hard is the correct choice. This should work if there isn't a hard drive problem, or your hit with a virus, or that the hard drive has a bad boot mbr.
If I understand this correctly, If you are using the system restore, it will maintain the last operating system install. When you went from XP to Vista, XP is totally gone. So your only option the will arraise it to restore system and if successful should be just fine.(I know that you mentioned it didn't work) you may have to do a total reinstall with Vista. If you can locate the disc. Now the part that is left in a particitlon is as you thought...XP unless you formatted the whole drive what you installed VIstA in which case you will have nothing. As long as you have a COA sticker on your computer you can borrow a disk from someone who has dell, and call the microsoft number and explain that you reformatted and use another copy to put it in and they will get you through the activation. Use the numbers on your sticker. Good luck please leave rating.; thank you
You just need to access the router setup page and when you're already on the router setup page, just look for MTU and set it to manual and set the size to 1400 don't forget to save the settings after changing that and try again to access the banking web site and that should be working fine already.....
