Re-installing your OS won't help..
Configuring your connections may help

1. Go to control panel.
2. choose network and internet connections
3. click the network connections
4. create new connections.

If you're using an IP addesss, pls. assign an ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS1 and DNS2.

Need to load xp on gateway

Do you have a full installation disc or an Upgrade version of XP? The full install should give you an option for partitioning and formatting the new hard drive as part of the installation process. From Microsoft, read this page for details: . You may need some additional drivers if you have a SATA hard drive. More screen shots and details are here: .

An alternative way of dealing with the problem may be to use a third-party Partition Manager software (Symantec's Partition Magic, Paragon's Partition Manager). Paragon's site is . This site has various levels of Partition Management software (with different features available in the more expensive versions). You'll need the bootable CD version of the software (recovery disc, .iso) to do the partitioning.

I hope this helps.

(I thought the upgrade version could also be done to a new hard disc including the partitioning; all you needed was a Win OS disc from an earlier version to prove qualifying ownership.)

I got a used laptop for my daughter for X-mas and it came with no disc. how do I make it like new ? It is a Gateway Centrino 450ROG

You can purchase recovery media directly from Gateway via this link:

Or if you just want to get downloads (drivers, presumably manuals and the like,) go here:

I'd recommend having the recovery media handy no matter what, though.

Driver issues

If you have recovery discs, you can reinstall the drivers from them. Some notebooks have inbuilt recovery partition, you can even reinstall drivers from recovery partition.

You can find the drivers for your notebook model from the below link:

No Operating System; Cannot Format User Partition - Gateway MX595

It seems that you have a corrupt user partition on your drive which is stopping you from doing a recovery.

What you will need to do is delete the partition(s) on your Gateway by using a system repair utility CD. ERD Commander 2005 or Bart are utilites that will allow you to boot from a CD and then delete the partitions.

You could also use a friend's Windows XP CD just to delete the partitions.

Once this is done, you should be able to re-install your OS (assuming there is no physical damage on the hard disk.

Hope this helps.

Can't reformat hard drive

If recovery is not possible by using recovery cd; you have to depend on a full version XP cd -- either for repair or new installation.
