Gateway clean install issues

Did a clean install (reformat, new partition) of XP on a Gateway laptop MX6025. about 7-8 ? marks in deviceman. Main wish/want is to get modem working. Gateway website software no help at all! Appreciate any help, THX

Re-installing your OS won't help..
Configuring your connections may help

1. Go to control panel.
2. choose network and internet connections
3. click the network connections
4. create new connections.

If you're using an IP addesss, pls. assign an ip address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS1 and DNS2.
