On the same side as the head lock lever at the back of the pedestal there is normally a small plastic part that the locking lever can hook under. It is held on by a single pop rivet. Maybe it has broken off. In the back of my mind I thought those things tipped back far enough that they were beyond the balance point and didn't want to fall back down anyway. Are you sure it is tipping all the way back?

KitchenAid Artisan mixer accessory port not turning

You probably just need a new Shear Pin. This is just a small steel pin like a nail that goes through the gear and the drive shaft. If the strain on the final drive exceeds specs, the pin shears through and thereby saves damage to the gears and motor.

This is one of the Shear Pins. They just call it 'pin, retaining'.

How to put the steel pin back in so the head will tilt without falling down

Tip it upside down on a towel. Look deep inside the pedestal where the hinge pin goes through. Right in the middle there is a single headless screw, undo it 2 turns. Wriggle things about and push the pin through to the middle, now tighten that screw up really tight. See how you go now.

Head does not lock but when adjusted whisk touches bowl

The screw is purely for adjusting the head height and that is with the flat paddle. If the head is not locking when the paddle is at the correct height then the locking mechanism needs to be adjusted. If you take it to a Kitchen Aid authorised service person they will sort it for you, they will have done heaps of them. Often the solution is with a file, if you go too far there is no going back so best left to the experts.

I have a Kitchenaid Artisan stand mixer and the head is loose. When in the down, locked position, I can move it up and down by probably an inch. I've been into shops and tried to do the same with

If you have also tightened up the screw that you can see from the front in the middle where the hinge pivots when head us up then that's where your problem is. That is the head height adjustment and is to set the flat paddle to just clear the bowl when the head is down.

What is the difference between the Kitchen Aid "KSM150PSMC" and the KSM150 ?? thanks

Hi,

The KSM150 is the line of mixers with similar features. It is in the Artisan series, tilt head, 325 watts. All mixers in the KSM150 line have the same features.
The one that you asked about, the KSM150PSMC is done in metallic chrome.
Best regards, --W/D--

Cant adjust flat beater so it wont hit the bowl, when trying to the head of the mixer is too loose

all tilt head mixers pivot on a pin which goes thru the head and the base. This pin is held in in place with a screw which you can access from underneath the base. Try tightening the screw and see if that tightens up the the loose head.

If the looseness is in the gear head then the five screws which hold the top and bottom halves of the gearcase together. Remove the chrome ring by gently prying it off, then drive the pin out which goes thru the planetary housing and the shaft and drop the planetary housing to access the 5 (item 19) screws.

KitchenAid Artisan Stand Mixer - Tilt is Tilting too Much & hits the bowl!

This may have a simple solution: This sounds like an issue of beater to bowl adjustment, which can come out of alignment naturally over time and with use of the machine.

If the flat beater is striking the bottom of your bowl, this may cause the locking mechanism to loosen and may cause the mixing head to "bounce" during use.

Your Use and Care Guide will cover the "beater to bowl adjustment," which you can do at home in a few minutes with a flathead screwdriver.
