The child lock safety feature was the first thing I tried. That was not the problem.

  • lawrencesmit Jul 12, 2009

Thanks, but no thanks. Disreguard any further assistance. I think I'll just buy a new one. This one is over 5 years old anyway.

  • lawrencesmit Jul 13, 2009

I did not find any of the solutions acceptable and was charged anyway. How do I get this charge removed? I did not accept anything and did not find the answers acceptable. Payment was to be made only if I accepted a solution. Please advise.

Hi

First there is a child lock on this oven - you may have accidentally activated it. When activated the oven wont operate. To deactivate press and hold stop/clear for 3 seconds or more.

If this works please remember to rate my answer. If not please post up a comment and I will continue to troubleshoot this for you.

Many Thanks.

Ok - Please be aware when considering my answer that microwaves are very dangerous things to work on if you have no electrical experience. First there is a procedure that must be carried out to discharge the high voltage capacitor if you are opening it to deal with the internal circuitry or components.

The capacitor must be discharged by creating a short circuit (direct connection) between the two capacitor terminals and from each terminal to chassis ground (bare metal surface).

    1) Unplug the power cord before opening up the oven cabinet

    2) Checks should be made on the power cord and fuses, fan motor, door latch and timer if the oven won't run. Safety devices are built into the oven at all of these points and will prevent the oven from working if they are faulty. It is possible also that the turntable motor or coupling is faulty on your machine preventing the turntable from working.

    3) Check that door closes completely and its latch is aligned.

    4) Check that interlock switch in door works properly as this is required for activating the microwave

    5) If there is a distinct buzzing noise - this indicates a failed magnetron, which is the main microwave generator. If this is broken, it will need professional repair.

Again I will say that Microwave ovens are very high voltage appliances and as such very dangerous to deal with unless you are clear about what you are doing. Any major repairs such as Magnetron should be done by a professional.

    Hi,

If its 5 years old it will have come near the end of its useful service life so I think that may well be the right thing to do my friend.

Please remember to rate my answer as ratings are important to me as an expert on this site. Many Thanks.

    Hi,

You have been charged because you posed a question to which the solution has clearly been given. This solution took up a considerable amount of my time and that is what you have been charged for. It appears however that you are now saying the solution is not acceptable to you because it is not a simple fix and requires you carry out electrical service work on the microwave!

I am unsure what solution would be acceptable to you in this situation?? What did you expect the answer to be with a problem such as this?? If you are not prepared to carry out an electrical repair - why ask such a question on a technical repair site??

I'm afraid I find it hard to understand your logic in this. Your decision to purchase a new microwave is entirely up to you however the steps towards repairing your old one have clearly been given and this is what you are paying for on this site.

    Thank You

Have ge model je1860 turns on but when you hit cook nothing happens is it the turn table motor. i don't want to do trial and error on parts.naturally the fuse is good

I'll presume you can program it ( set the length of time you want to cook)
Does the timer count down?
Does the turntable ( if you have one) turn?
If everything else seems to work properly and it just doesn't cook more then likely the magnetron is bad

I have Problem with my microwave

it may be just a fuse , but if the fuse inside the microwave blows again then there is something else wrong and it would need to be tested to find the problem and fix it
so the fuse inside needs to be check and or replaced and if the microwave powers and works ok after replacing the fuse , then the other fuse was just bad

If we close the mircowave door the units start to run by itself. - it will not heat, but the light comes on and the turntable rotates it will not stop until we turn the power off - when power is turned...

i think you have a welded controller, either a digital one or a mechanical one. microwave won't run unless you switch it to run. the door switches are safety switches to turn off the microwave once you open the door. if you have a digital controller, you could have a welded relay, if you have a mechanical timer, it could be a welded contact at the timer. another thing is that it should heat what ever you are heating. if it is not heating, check if it has a fuse and if it is busted. some fuse are installed to protect only the magnetron that is why the light and turn table are still running. if there is no fuse to the magnetron, then check the diode from the capacitor to the ground. it could be open. if not then you can have a bad magnetron. i hope i was able to help.

sounds like either a powerboard or control board is sending erratic voltage or no voltage to the table motor and possibly the light.

You need to trace the power feeding the high voltage transfomer. Because the table doesn't turn, it implies that a door switch or safety interlock is the problem.

Emerson Microwave MW8115SS

I bought my emerson microwave 3 years ago model# mw8115ss from walmart and have had all the problems that everyone has talked about and I thought about throwing it away until I thought about one small detail, the FUSE. China uses junky glass fuses that burst instantly with a slight power outage, door slamming to hard, moving it around, and of course constant use like myself always heating up water for bottles. I took the back of the microwave off and walla!!! a blown fuse, but wait!!! dont buy another glass fuse!!! go to your local home depot and get the ceramic fuse for microwave ovens!!! they are $2.83 at my local home depot. I replaced the junky glass fuse with the ceramic one and it has worked perfectly for six months now.

DONT let someone tell you that you cant replace a glass fuse with a ceramic one because they are full of boloney. My microwave did all kinds of things, it wouldnt turn sometimes, it would come on by itself, it would beep for no reason, turn but not heat up, you name it I had the problem. When a fuse starts to go out it can make your appliances do some strange things, check the fuse and replace it with a CERAMIC one and I promise it should eliminate your problem.

Microwave Turn Table

This could be a failing turntable motor, but more likely your turntable support has gotten bent. That's an easier and cheaper problem to solve. Excessive heat can sometimes make the legs of the support bend so that the center is raised up far enough that it won't always make good contact with the motor. You can test this by running the microwave empty for a few seconds. It may hesitate to turn or stutter. Next try it with a bowl with several cups of water in it. The extra weight may push it down so it makes good contact and runs without a hitch. The way I fix these is to use a stove burner or a torch to heat up the legs and bend them up a bit. Then I quickly set up or clamp the support so it's held in the proper position for a few minutes until it cools. One way to hold the heated support in position is to place an object under the end of each leg and put something slightly heavy on top of it in the middle. If you need a new motor or just want to see helpful exploded views of your model, see the GE or Sears parts Web site: http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ http://www3.sears.com/
