I have a maxtor 51536h3 harddrive, I need to know the jumper settings for running single as a master and slave to transfer the data to another harddrive. THANKS

If you have two hard drives on the same IDE cable, then set one as Master and the other as slave.Set which ever one has your operating system on it as the master (though it doesn't really matter). Once you get them both plugged in and your computer boots up. You should see both drives and can transfer data as you see fit.

I have a 250gb seagate sata but when i put my 80gb IDE hdd it only detects in booting and in bios but after that if i open my computer i cant see my 80gb IDE Hdd and even in device manager my hard disk was...

there was wrong in the set up of jumper in your 80gb hdd. Look closely to the 80gb harddrive, in between the ide cable terminal and the power supply connector you will see 8pin terminals paired together and a jumper use to short the paired terminals. It is most likely that the jumper was configure to detect your hdd as master. If the ide cable you use for the 80gb hdd was also use for the dvd/cdrom drive then it will conflict with it if both jumper setting was set to master. See the description of jumper settings in the sticker of the hdd. Position the jumper to slave.

Reboot your system again and see if the 80gb finally appear in your system. When system boot upon detection of hdd, the primary master should be 250gb while your primary/secondary slave will be read your 80gb hard disk.

How do I set my 7200 Seagate drive as slave

Look at the diagram on the drive, you will need a jumper

MA = Master
SL = Slave
CS = Cable Select

If it's EIDE use the center connector on the cable

Jumper settings for slave

Page 21 in this manual shows the jumper should be removed to set this drive as a slave. You could also position it over the second column of pins, that is the cable select position and should also work if the drive is a slave or master. Your other drive on the cable would also need to be set to cable select if you do that.

slave is NO jumpers at all

(Master) - The vertical jumper over the J50 pins is configuring the drive as a Master. The horizontal jumper over the J48 and J46 pins is in the Storage position.
(Master with CLJ) - The vertical jumper over the J50 pins is configuring the drive as a Master. The vertical jumper over the J46 pins is in the Cylinder Limitation position (CLJ).
(Slave) - No jumper is required to configure the drive as a Slave. The jumpers over the J48, J46, J44 and J42 positions are both in the storage position.
(Slave with CLJ) - The jumper over the J44 and J42 positions is in the storage position. The jumper over the J46 pins is in the Cylinder Limitation position (CLJ).
(Cable Select) - The jumper over the J48 position is configuring the drive for Cable Select. The jumper over the J44 and J42 pins is in the storage position.
(Cable Select with CLJ) - The jumper over the J48 position is configuring the drive for Cable Select. The jumper over the J46 pins is in the Cylinder Limitation position (CLJ).

Also any other ways that might help would be great to know, heres what i'm talking about! "Fixing The Drive NOTE: Commands for you to type are in red boldface. Pay attention to upper & lower case - it is important. Turn on power to the RS232-to-TTL adapter and the hard drive. After a few seconds, Press CTRL+z. You should then see a prompt like this: F3 T> If not, swap TX & RX wires. Access Level 2 (type /2): F3 T>/2 (enter) F3 2> Then spin down the (disconnected) motor: F3 2>Z (enter) Spin Down Complete Elapsed Time 0.147 msecs F3 2> Very carefully, remove the cardstock that you placed between the PCB and the drive head contacts.
