Hi, everyone! It's about 96 degrees outside today in VA and my home central AC will not go below 80 degrees (cold air coming out of vent but not very forceful air) and it runs all day and night as well as my ceiling fans in every room. I have placed a window unit ac system in an upstairs bedroom to help my central system to not have to work so hard and help with the heat upstairs. I am trying to think of ways to help my system before calling a tech to come out at a cost. I replace my inside vent filters as I should. I am trying to locate the furnace filter to replace it but I don't see one. I bought the house (built in 1997) not long ago and found out the furnace/ac unit it located under the house in a crawl space that makes it very difficult to work in. Today I went under and looked but didn't see a filter (shouldn't every system have one?). Also I noticed a constant dripping of water from the metal duct that has insulation wrapped around it (should that be like that?) . I opened the panel of the unit to see if that filter was in there (according to a forum old units the filter is inside the panel) but I don't see one (everything inside that panel is dry) So my questions are where is the filter suppose to be placed? if there isn't one where it should be and how do I find out the size to place it there? What could this constant water drip be? I just looked ( 07/20/15 -2PM) at the A coil and it is FROZEN what do I do now? Also how do I clean the A coil if it is dirty? All responses and suggestions are welcome. I need all the help I can get. Thank you in advance!
Your furnace filter or A/C filter is located next to the floor in your cold air return into the furnace. Your other problem is your condensate line out of the A/C box that sits on top of your furnace is plugged. Replace your filter in the cold air duct, and remove your condensate line from the A/C box and blow air in the line to remove the clog in the line.
Testimonial: "Thank you so much! My freon was low as well so I had it topped off by a local company and I also am in the market to upgrade the thermostat since it hasn't been replaced since '97. I also purchase black out curtains since the thermostat is opposite the front windows in my front living room and we have no tree coverage in the front yard so the sun beats down on the home. ALL IN ALL the temperature has been perfect and even shuts off (LOVELY SOUND TO ANY HOMEOWNER) during the day! Thank you all so much for the feedback!!!"
change filters, vacuum out blower fines-scrape them clean, replace bearing/busing on blower shaft/axle
As a propane guy, I also recommend having your regulator pressure checked. Low pressure will give you smaller and yellower flames. resulting in less heat and to be more precise, less efficient heating.
