Question about Creative Labs Creative Webcam

1 Answer

I have an old Creative Webcam Instant and I can record video but I am not getting audio playback (I have changed the proper settings on the webcam software). I can playback audio with other videos on Microsoft Media Player 11, so it is not playback in general. I have tried selecting PCM and Microsoft ADPCM as the audio codec but no luck. Any suggestions?

How do i use my webcam

Webcams (PC cameras) are simple devices that allow you to video chat with family and friends on popular instant messaging programs such as Skype, AIM, Windows Messenger and Yahoo! As technology advances, many webcams improve on visual quality and audio playback. Instead of just typing words, they allow you to be creative and silly to make for good conversations. Webcams are so easy to use, once you install its necessary drivers, it's excitement all the way.

Get Ready to Webcam

1.Insert the installation disc that comes with your webcam (PC camera) and follow the instructions to install the drivers. This varies with different models and manufacturers.
2.Connect the USB cable attached to your webcam to an open USB port on your computer when prompted to by your installation disc.
3.Place the webcam on top of your monitor and maintain a distance of about three feet at most. This ensures that you remain in frame and the camera stays in focus.
4.Adjust the angle of the webcam so that the lens and the built-in microphone are facing you. Adjust your desktop speaker to face you for proper audio playback.
5.Launch the messenger program you like to use and begin video chatting with your family and friends.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya.

I used installation disc and all we get is good video but no sound. The Control Panel sounds are not muted

You do not say if the webcam has a built in mic, what the Operating System is on your Computer, if your computer is a laptop and what program you want to use the webcam in.
This is a typical set up

Laptop x webcam/mic x Vista x Yahoo Messenger

TEST SPEAKERS
Right click on speaker icon in System Tray
Select "Playback Devices"
The speaker icon ( checked as working) and volume level graph should be visible
Right click on the volume graph and click "Test"
Left hand speakers followed by right hand should be heard

SET DEFAULT & TEST MIC
Click "Recording" tab.
Set required mic as default - click on mic font to highlight and click "Properties"
In lower dropbox display "Use this device enable" click OK
Click "Levels" tab and ramp up sliders ( adjust to suit later)
Return to "Recording". Test mic by speaking and make sure volume graph displays
CONFIGURE TO MESSENGER

Open messenger - on top toolbar. Left click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Connection - Select 'no proxies' or 'connect direct to the internet' depending on the version of messenger you have
make sure your internet connection and country are correct in the lower two boxes > Apply > OK

Click ( > ) Messenger > Preferences > Calling and Audio
Set mic and speakers to show Default equipment
Run call up assistant to test audio equipment > Apply > OK

If you have pre-Vista OS you may have to access your audio equipment from the Control Panel

Audio on Dell Webcam Central And voice record isn't working

I have a Dell 1545 with Dell web cam central & I've had this issue. The problem is that Dell web cam central installs it's own microphone settings onto your laptop called something like Dell web cam Live!. This isn't the built in microphone in my laptop & maybe not yours either. You have to change the settings for your computer system & Dell web cam central. Go to start> control panel> sound> recording .. on mine there is an option for Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" ... that is the built in mic. You want that for your default & apply it. Also .. as a side note .. I disabled the web cam central Live! microphone completely from this window. Then open Dell web cam central & go to the "Record Video's" option. In the middle of this is an orange button with a video camera icon. Next to this on the same button is a little arrow pointing down .. click that. Under microphone .. choose Microphone "High Definition Audio Device" just like the sound option in control panel. I've done this & it's completely fixed. I can record videos with sound & use my built in mic in voice/video chat.
