Question about Polaris Pb460 Polaris Booster Pump Replacement Impeller

1 Answer

I have a Polaris PB4-60 Booster Pump with a leaking seal. I have removed the Volute and removed the 4 bolts that hold the bracket to the motor. How do I remove the impeller? At the store they told me it should just slide off? I have tried many things but nothing seems to move the impeller. Thank you.

You need to lock the other end of the motor shaft and then spin off the impeller. If you would like a quote on the replacement seal, contact us at www.arrowpools.net

How do you change the shaft seal on a polaris pb4-60 pump?

BE CAREFUL YOU CAN BREAK THE SEAL PLATE BY OVER INSTALLING THE #1000 SEAL , TAKE 6 BOLTS OUT UNSCREW IMPELLER THE TAKE THE 4 BOLTS THAT HOLD THE SEAL PLATE TO THE MOTOR, KNOCK OUT OLD SEAL FROM SEAL PLATE USE SOCKET THAT FIT OVER SEAL. I USE A 1 1/4 SOCKET. THEN REPLACE CERAMIC IN IMPELLER (READ INSTRUCTIONS WITH SEAL) OR TAKE IT TO YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP MOTOR REPAIR GUY.. HAVE HIM DO IT . $ AROUND 40.00

How do I remove the Inlet and Outlet PVC pipes attached to the Volute? They may be sealed with a sealant or glue and am not sure if I need to remove the Volute bolts first.

You just have to cut the pipes in a place where you can glue them back together with a coupeling. If you overheated the pump though you may have warped the pipes and will need to go back far enough to get to good pipe and replace it all the way up to the pump. They just screw into the pump and you can seal the new ones with silicone or teflon stick or tape. Don't use pipe dope as it is not good for plastic.

My pb4 booster pump is leaking from the booster pump bracket and making a ''whining'' noise when turned on????

Replacing the pumps mechanical seal should fix the leak. The whinning may be from bearing damage due to the leak. If you are unsure how to fix it, try a local electric motor repair shop. We charge about $55 - $60 for that seal and bearings installed.

Polaris PB-4 leaking from bracket area

I have a similar problem. The guy at the pool supply sold me a cup/spring assembly that seals between the impeller and the rear bracket. He says it is fairly straightforward to replace, but you must secure the drive shaft from turning buy popping off the rear cover on the motor (small round cover) and hold the shaft with something like pliers. I am first going to try to hold it in front of the motor at the bracket area. This needs to be held still to unscrew the impeller from the shaft. I am going to work on it today. We'll see how it goes. $12.50 part vs. $150 service call....
