I have even tried placing a different nozzle that I had from a previous pressure washer and the same thing happens. It sounds like the pump is working fine. When I don't have the nozzle on high it shoots out at a steady stream. When I pull back on the nozzle to put it on high it sprays great for a second and then slows to a sputter.

Also this is a gas powered pressure washer.

  • gardngal79 Jul 12, 2009

Hi. Here is what I have done so far. I took the wand off and got a steady flow. Then I put it back on and with the trigger pulled I get a steay flow of water. Then I pull back on the end of the nozzle to make the pressure level go to high and it just stops. I thought it might be the wand so I got another one that I had from a previous pressure washer and it did the same thing. Both wands work the same. Here is a link to the user manual so you can see what I am talking about. http://www.karcherresidential.com/suppor...

The wand is on page 7 of the manual. I also tried CLR and distilled vinegar in both wands just to make sure, I will be so happy with any help you can be. Thanks!

  • gardngal79 Jul 12, 2009

    Not one for the tip.

  • gardngal79 Jul 12, 2009

The hose attaches to the end of the the gun not to the wand. I just tried what you said about putting it on high and then turning it on but it didn't work. What seems strange to me is that it is running fine then I pull back on the nozzle to high and it sputters and stops, then I push it back forward and the water runs fine. Do you think that the tip is still clogged?

  • gardngal79 Jul 12, 2009

The engine does labors on and off and kicks out high pressure for a second or two then quits, It will spur hard 5-6 times then nothing. I can see a pin hole of light when I look through the nozzle.

  • gardngal79 Jul 12, 2009

About removing the end of the nozzle. My husband tried but it wants to twist and bend the pipe running to it. It wont' come off easily.

  • gardngal79 Jul 12, 2009

To be honest I'm ready to take a hammer to it!!! LOL

I already tried putting the soap intake in water and still no good. It does shoot water out at high for a few seconds then sputters with no water, then shoots out water then sputters. It will do this for a maximum of 11 times then stops altogether, Almost sounds like I am rev ving the engine

  • gardngal79 Jul 12, 2009

I checked that too. Water pressure is great. When I take the hose to the wand off the machine, the water that comes out of the side of it is at such a pressure that I can't put my hand in front of it. Too strong.

  • gardngal79 Jul 12, 2009

We tried that too. My husband held it over and it still didn't work. No high pressure.
That part about the hammer is getting closer to being true...It might not fix it but I might feel better. lol

I really appreciate all your help. Something just don't work out easily. I will have it checked in the morning and I will let you know. You were a great help, it is obvious that you know alot about them, I was just unlucky enough to have a tough one.

    Thanks

See if I can help. What do you get for flow when you remove wand & squeeze handle? If you get a good steady flow shooting out, then your nozzle or wand is probably plugged up, most likely nozzle. Try a pin in the end to clear it out then an air nozzle if you can to blow back out of hose. If that doesn't unplug it, try pouring CLR down hose or distilled vinegar, and let it sit for a while to break up calcium etc , then try blowing back through small nozzle opening with airhose again to clear out debris. It only takes a small piece to clog that nozzle. Let me know how you make out & if that helps at all.

I'll scan manual in a minute, but tell me, did it come with a tool to remove nozzle tip by chance?

Does high pressure hose actually attach to wand as in manual picture, or does it attach to trigger area.
Also, have you tried holding gun on full, and wand set for high pressure, then start motor?

Sure sounds like some kind of restriction. Can you see daylight through spray nozzle if you remove it from gun & hold it up to sun or good light? Does engine labor when you try high pressure spray, or just stay at same idle.

Just double check little screen where garden hose attaches is clean too.

While your looking close at nozzle at end, see if you notice if it can be removed with a wrench or anything. As in threaded fitting with squared corners that a wrench my turn it out.

Poke a wire in there and clean good if he hasn't done that already.

I don't suppose there is anyone he knows where he can take wand & have them test it on another machine, Like maybe place he bought machine even. Also, try it with soap tube in a pail of water & see if that helps? (just to eliminate chance of air coming in through it.) unless it has a shut off position, and sure it is shut off, better yet try both ways.

Sounds like water supply is not enough, or constant. Do you see your garden hose collapsing at all when it goes to high?

I had a giggle about the hammer part, remind me of myself on ocassion ! ha-ha. Does engine die out and almost stall before kicks back out, pressure wise, then rev back up, then die down when high pressure comes again? If yes, watch throttle on side where governor rod or lever is and observe which way it goes when pressure is high, then low. It should move back & forth with engine load. When it goes to high pressure, and lever moves over, hold it there (watch for hot exhaust if in that area, dont burn yourself.) and see if pressure stays up .

Although I still like the hammer idea, (ha-ha-ha) I'd check local businesses for seller of same products, and give them the wand to try, I'm sure they'd do it free of charge. If it works on another unit, then obviously something wrong with pressure regulator or something on pump, which would require service manual & parts. If it comes down to pump, just tell them you want a quote before repairs, then decide whether to get it done or buy new from there. Sorry, wish I could do better, but think we're licked until that wand is tried on another unit. Please get back to me and let me know what you find out, my curiosity is killing me. If I could only get there and see all this for myself, it might help. Take care, and don't forget to let me know.

Your welcome, and thanks for reply, and will look forward to your next reply. Lets hope it's something simple & cheap that we both missed.

P.S. --- Put that hammer away for now, but don't forget where it is. LOL

Sounds like you have a bit of derbies in the tip. If you can remove the fan tip look thru it into the light for some small restriction. Or change the tip and retry. Small bits of rust cause this. also Do you think the pump is working? or is just water pushing thru? Check the power button on the pulg>

what you describe indicates a problem hose or block nozzle jet
if it doesn't play up with a normal nozzle then it is not the hose or jet but that particular wand and nozzle you are using

My karcher seems to pulse when on, could this be due to the low water pressure from the hose?

I do not have specific experience of your machine.
However, the high pressure pump will be controlled by a pressure switch on the high pressure outlet to the pipe and jet.
Pulsing (turning off) suggests that the outlet (high pressure) pipe is blocked or partially blocked. Try checking the nozzle and (with the unit turned off) clearing it with a fine piece of wire.
Hope this works

How do i use the patio & deck cleaner on the karcher k5.68MD, when i add the liquid, what do i need to do for it to be pump up into the hose.

The nozzle on the end of the wand either twists or pulls out to get you into soap mode, the liquid you have in the tank come out real slow, it does not come out with the high speed nozzle. The idea is to soak the job with detergent, then blast it off with the high pressure water. Hope this helps.
