That is not the fault with T'Con board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

How to replace T-con board

It might not be a fault with T'Con board, I assumes. Check the ABL circuit well, before replacing T'Con. In fact, the main digital board to your TV need a through checkup. It is a skilled work. If you are not so sound in electronics, it will be best, either contact a service person, or authorized service center.

HI, I have a 40" Samsung Flat Screen TV (Model:

This will not be easy to be 100% correct as to what part is bad as you can see in my pictures here.
It can be bad main board, T-CON board, Bad LCD panel.
http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/LCD%20panel/

I would try new T-CON since it is the cheapest part, not worth to repalce LCD panel.

I just changed the main power board, and everything is fine...apart from no picture...sound is fine. Before the power board died, the picture was fine, apart from what looked like a water damage mark...

You need to try the following:
Check the power supply caps and voltages. Reseat the ribbon cables between the T-CON board (Timing Control board) which drive the LCD panel rows and columns, it get the LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signals) form the main board which has the VIDEO processor to drive the T-CON board.
When T-CON is dead you will see glowing screen without video, or when it has timing problem you will see lines, rolling, multiple pictures, pixelating.
The main board supplys switched 12vdc to power the T-CON board.
You need to do more checking.
First, look at the screen in darkened room to see if you can see any slight glow from the screen, if it does, then the problem can be the T-CON (not getting the 12vdc) or the main logic board not feeding the signals to the T-CON board.
if not, next place to check will be the power supply module, make sure it has 24vdc which is required by the backlight inverter to work, the reason for not having 24vdc can be from bad DC filter caps (leaking/bulging top, high ESR) or short circuits in the inverter board which will cause the 24vdc supply to go into shutdown mode, so you may have to disconnect the power cable that feed the inverter board to see if the 24vdc will work without the inverter board hookup, you will need to apply about 3~4 amp of load to the 24vdc to make sure it can handle that. There are fuses on the backlight inverter boards also. So there is some troubleshooting you will have to do to find out the causes of the problem you are having.

Ghosting and very dark mostly orange screen

The LCD Panel is defective. The problem is the T-con board that is used to decode the signal from the main board to the LCD Panel. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole LCD Panel or T-con board if possible. The T-con will cost about 1/10 of the price as the LCD panel but except for a few new models, the T-con is not available. The LCD Panel is very expensive (usually from $600-700 for a 32" Sony).

The reason is that Sony makes the T-cons for each individual TV with different specs to match that of the LCD panel because of the low threshold for error between the LCD Panel and the T-con.
