Question about Canon i860 InkJet Photo Printer
Print head is probably plugged. With caution (this can ruin your printer if you get too violent) take a Q-Tip wet with rubbing alcohol and touch the printhead where the ink tranfers to the paper. To get access to the cartridge open the cover and when the carriage moves to the center unplug the printer. The alcohol may soften the dry ink enough to get it printing again. If it starts printing again do a print cartrige cleaning with the software included with the printer.

SOURCE: Not printing too well
Do use genuine brother ink for testing: If you're lucky the filter in front of the nozzles (which is part of the printhead) is not clogged. Do the power cleaning twice: power up. push menu then start mono then four times arrow up. machine will display maintenance. push arrow up several times til 7 is displayed then Enter then arrow up til 6 is displayed. Push Enter. push arrow up til 3 then Enter: P cleaning_all Push start/mono. After machine has finished maintenance will be displayed. push arrow up til 0 (zero) then enter then puh arrow up til 9. machine will print a test sheet. Repeat procedure above if no good result. After three times without success the printhead is clogged due to wrong ink. ...and do use dye-ink only for brother printers (pigmented ink will clog the filter!)

If you don't print at least once a month, you will clog the machine. You unfortunately have to get it fixed by a professional or get a new printer. Sorry!

The ink should come out of the cart. if not the cart is the problem at this point try anothere magenta if that does not shore it up then you need to then start looking at the print head where it goes it itself now the store you bought the ink from will give you a replacement no questions asked sometimes even if you dont got the reciept. Try those steps you be glad you did.

SOURCE: hp deskjet F4180 prints wrong
I had the same problem and the solution I found was to uninstall and then reinstall the printer driver. For some reason this worked. I now get the correct colors.
