Question about Makita 14.4V 3/8" Driver Drill

1 Answer

Makita cordless drill has lost variable speed functionality

I have a Makita cordless drill, model 6337D. It has lost the functionality of the variable speed. When I pull the trigger, the drill does not respond until I get to the very end of the trigger's travel. At that point the drill comes on at full speed. Safe to assume that replacing the trigger will cure the problem?

My Makita BHP451 Li ion battery drill periodically the varible speed does not work, ie. the button works as a on/off switch - any idea what's wrong. Thanks Bjarne

Bjarne, odds are the variable speed function of the trigger is failing. There are Makita repair centers that perform repair, and sell parts if you want to take it on as a DIY project. Before proceeding, I would make sure the warranty has expired. If it is still in warranty a Makita repair center should repair it for no charge.

I have a 6337D which has 16 position torque settings. I do not have any torque measurement device. This said, what does each setting represent in terms of a torque value? Thanks for your help.

Good luck finding any actual documentation on this one. The only thing I could think of would be to put a rag in a vise and clamp the drill in the vise after chucking up a bolt. Set the wrench for your desired torque and adjust the clutch on the drill until the wrench indicates the clutch torque value is what you desire...just a thought.
Take care.

Makita 6337D cordless drill problem

It is possible that the batteries are no longer good. They may need to be changed. These batteries do reach a stage where they no longer hold charge.

On rare occasions I have seen the gear box jam or the motor bearings go defective.
