Question about Acer Aspire 5100-3357 Notebook

Acer 5315 laptop fails to boot, when i insert the power cable still nothing happens no lights just dead i was given this laptop and told it had a fault where you plug in the AC mains lead and after 20 mins the laptop would display an orange light and would boot up perfect for about 10 mins then same again dead i have however not seen this orange light or laptop boot, i have up to now stripped it to make sure there is nothing loose and i have also tried the battery out and AC and holding power on button for 30 seconds if you could help it would be appreciated

    it is not the battery or power supply as a friend has same laptop ( 5315 ) so i used both her battery and AC and still nothing
    im leaning towards either power button failure or motherboard failure

    only thing i dont get is, if i add the AC mains supply shouldnt i see the battery charge L.E.D light up ( which could determine the power switch )

Could be the power supply. (Likely built into the power cord). Heat could have been causing it to fail before. Possibly dead now!

Acer 5315, no power on battery or power lead, charger light is on the charger, no lights on the computer.


Try a mains (ATX) reset.

- Remove power lead and battery.
- Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
- Replace power cable only.
- Test.

Failing this, you'll need to try and swap test your charger for another, to see if it might just be that.

Hi my acer aspire 5315 will not boot up, i turn it on i get nothing but the little cursor in the top right hand corner...can anyone help please thank u in advance


That is probably because some important boot files are missing. What you can try is to take out the hard drive and move it to another acer aspire 5315 computer. To take out the hard drive, remove ALL electrical components (power cable, battery, etc.), open the computer's hard drive bay, and take it out VERY carefully. Make sure you do not cut the cables. That could damage the hard drive. Then, you remove the hard drive on the other acer aspire 5315 computer using the same instructions above. Then, you can identify the missing boot files (they will be in a hidden drive called System Reserved), copy them onto your computer's hidden System Reserved drive (if it's missing you'll have to create one manually), and put it back in the other acer aspire 5315 computer. Make sure that you put the wires where they were when you removed them, otherwise the hard drive might not work. Then, try turning on the computer again.

Acer 5315 will not boot. Also will not work in safe mode


turn off laptop , remove cables and battery then press and hold power button for 8 secs. Reinsert cables and battery then turn on the pc. Observe if there is power on the laptop by checking the keyboard if there is light on it. You may check it at the upper portion of your keyboard. If it still wont boot, you may have a bad memory or hard drive. Normally if it is a system problem, your unit won't turn on. Consult ACER for possible repair of your laptop

I have aan Acer Aspire 5315 which is 2 and a half years old. The battery died so I plugged in the cable in the usual way and nothing happened no lights came on. I assumed the powercable needed replacing...


The power ports are generally the problem. If you wiggle the wire and get contact that is almost sure that is it. The Internet has folks that will fix this problem.

Acer Aspire 5315 Vista Windows boot problem


have you checked if your pc is compatible with win7? use this to check it: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
and if it is, try to do a clean install. boot from the cd. insert the disc. restart pc, as soon as it has power, press F12 several times and highlight cd/dvd drive or ODD using your arrow keys then press enter. it will load the cd from there. And that should work fine.

Acer aspire 5315 doesnt boot blank screen


When you power up the laptop press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios setup.
Then check your harddisk is detect or not?
Then also make sure SATA option is disabled in bios.
Then go to boot option and set first boot device as your harddrive.Then save settings and exit.
But if you even not able to enter in bios then you have reset bios settings and Refix RAM memory .
For that open back cover fo laptop and find cmos cell on motherbord pull it for 10 minutes so all settings of bios goes to factory defaults.

Acer won't boot up


Hi,
when any computer posts/boots up.
it goes through a sequence of initialising things before booting.
i,ve been repairing computers for around 12-15 years.
1st i,d try removing the ram ( memory ) usually underneath the laptop, behind a screw cover. Or ocassionally under the keyboard.
if 2 sticks of ram are installed, remove the battery. and 1 stick of Ram. put battery on and try to boot. if no joy with that try the other stick of ram. and replace battery-Re-boot.
If this works you have 1 stick of faulty ram or faulty ram slot on motherboard. Failing this. I suspect that the CPU has overheated, and therefore a replacement Processor should solve the problem.

Comp won't boot


This could also happen if the hard drive is dead and trying to boot the next item or the BIOS has the Netboot option set as the first boot device.

Jump into your BIOS and make sure that the boot order is CDROM then USB then HDD. Then try again. Let us know what happens.

0xa 0000000 is a hard drive error .. either your controller or your hard drive has failed ..

My Aspire 5315 will not start


I actually contacted Acer by email for this and got a reply in less than a day.

Try the steps below for a power reset, to eliminate a hardware problem with your notebook:

1. Disconnect the AC adapter from the laptop.

2. Remove the battery.

3. Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds then release it. (You will not see anything happen)

4. Connect the AC Adapter to the laptop. Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged in.

5. Turn the computer on as normal.

6. Once Windows boots, insert the battery.
