Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

My 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe idles very roughly when you turn the Air conditioner on. I just did a full tuneup on the engine thinking that would fix the problem but that did not work. The truck runs smoothly when the air is turned off any solutions?

I'd remove idle air control valve on throttle body, clean it well & port (hole) it came out of with throttle body or carb cleaner spray. If it cures problem, for a while then problem returns later, replace it.

I have a 2003 jeep grand cherokee limited. it starts alright but dies almost instantly. when it does stay running it idles rough and at a low rpm. I think it could be the cam sensor but im not sure.

Checking for diagnostic trouble codes would be a good first step before assuming anything . Could have a vacuum leak , a Idle air contorl valve problem ,Mass air flow sensor problem, tps -throttle position sensors . A dirty throttle plate . Suggest you check out videos on youtube on rough running ,stalling problems !

2001 jeep rough idle when started

  • CEL lamp on key on?
  • all fuses good?
  • CEL goes out running (check engine light)?
  • no, then scan it.
  • yes, then get a tuneup, every 60kmiles, minimum.

rough idle means MISFIRE
this can be just a dirty EGR valve
but you never stated what engine is in the bay of the many.

2000 jeep grand cherokee 4.0 rough idle,

This what I think is happening. Your engine is running rich because the ECM thinks it has too much air and so injects more fuel. When you now introduce air, by taking th e vacuum line off, the fuel mixture is now more balanced. Have you cleaned your MAF sensor? Also make sure your engine coolant is full.

My 2001 tahoe dies while idling in park. After waiting over night it started and ran fine until allowed to idle in park for a short time. This a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with a 5.3 liter engine and 160,000 miles.

If the only problem is idle and it runs grat above ide then the most likely component is the Idle Air Control valve. This is providing you have no codes stored indicating something else.

My 1996 chevy tahoe has rougha rough idle and low r.p.m's in drive what can i do to solve this problem

I would do a full tune up first. Plugs, wires, rotor, cap and coil. If your idle is still rough consider MAP sensor, idle position sensor, or any other emissions sensors maybe suspect. They usually set codes that would trigger your "check engine" light. On the other hand check belts and tension pully if you have one. Lastley, change the fuel filter put in some injector cleaner. A good shop can test the fuel pressure from the fuel pump. I hope this can help.

Runs rough and vibrates when idling

make sure the firing order is ok, that means every plug wire belongs to a specific spark plug and can't be swap to another
if the do not help then reinstall the old distribuitor cap and see if that cures the problem i have seen some aftermarket caps arking internally
also doble check spark plug for loose and retie
