so did you just install w10? no Pavillion model stated, nor if 32bit or 64bit windows, do you have the license key (COA:)( all this is repeated at ms.com zillion times 1: make sure PC has internet connection first. 2:; then open start run box. and type activation and run that. if that fails that means your license is no good 3: if no good, call MS on the horn (phone) its that simple. unless COA lost. certificate of authenticity

You have to go to setting and change the audio output to TV speakers for the TV speakers to work,, but, if you use a sound bar with optical connection...you have to set it also .. mine works the same way,,

the solutions are:
1. If its in backside of laptop its is the serial number that are produced to identify the laptop where its manufactured and any defects are easily solved by using this. this are unique number which are produced by laptop manufacturing company. that are used to find and solve the errors in case of any warranty claims , manufacturing defect of the particular model number.
2.If its in any stickers other than labelled HP Pavillion . just check that it may some serial numbers or any activation code for software programs. find which company in that serial number sticker.

1. if you have something else that you can test the optical wire on. do that first. dvd player etc... if the test item works, it's the sound bar (or a setting in the sound bar.)

2. check the audio settings on your t.v. make sure it's set to output to optical.

3. replace the wire.

if none of these solve the problem, the t.v.'s optical output may be bad.

If you are currently using your sound system shown for your television sound then you need to use that with you sound bar plugged into it. You can hook it directly to your TV if you have an audio out but your tv has to produce enough output to run the sound bar. If your tv does have an audio out then there is a good chance you need to make those jacks active in the sound set up menu for external speakers. Some sound bars are powered and will require being plugged in as well.
