Question about Kenmore 42800 Stainless SteelCooktop

Open Question

Kenmore Elite 36' induction cooktop. After experiencing erratic performance such as the unit turning itself off and finally crapping-out permanently, had Sears come in. Repair tech couldn't solve the problem, but did find a fused "communicator cable" that was apparently installed over one of the heating pads. It was also noted that the cooling fans may not have been operating. Other than to recommend replacing a $1200 circuit board -- with no guarantee that it would fix the problem -- I had no option since the unit was just out of warranty and the cost of the repair would have been over 50% of the original purchase price. I realize that the unit (less than a year old) was produced by Electrolux, but have been unable to get any contact info to report my dissatisfaction with the manufacturer.

SOURCE: error codes 10 12 16 on kenmore induction cooktop

We purchased a 36" elite model on ebay for our house we are building. I finally installed a year later only to have error codes 39 & 40. I completely dissasembled it and put it back together. No luck. However after much searching I found the service manual for the 36" Icon by Electrolux (same manufacturer as the Elite). The guts look mostly the same. Manual states your codes 10 16 12 are for defective key sensors. I found out that on my cooktop if I held a key for maybe 20 sec or more it would beep once - indicating the key was not defective.

SOURCE: Electrolux induction cooktop shuts off and won't turn back on

There is an internal thermal circuit breaker. The breaker has gone bad. On-line of Electrolux find a service manual of your model to locate the breakers location. Contact a local appliance parts store for a replacement also ask for heat sink gel(very small amount). Trip the circuit breaker, remove bad one, clean the space, apply gel and replace it.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite Induction Cooktop Error Code 41

I realize this is over a year old. I have the same unit with the same error code. Last night, mine made a popping noise followed by smoke and then displayed the 41 and all E's. I pulled the breaker immediately. I'm sure that at least one controller board is toast.
I called Sears and it is under warranty but for parts only, so I guess I will give them a call and schedule the repairman. This should be fun.

Anyone else experienced this failure??

Prestige induction cooktop showing error E4

Good Afternoon friend, I appreciate your inquiry!

Typically on an Electrolux induction cooktop the "E4" error code stands for key sensor for timer. Which means you could be experiencing an issue with the right board, center board, or left board. I would perform a reset on your cooktop and you can do that by flipping the household circuit breaker off for ten minutes.

If that does not assist with clearing any false error codes or the error "E4" continues to display I would suggest seeking assistance from a professional for proper diagnosis and repair. Hopefully this helps. -Matt

Induction error e6

Hello it07002 - You may try and reset the induction cook top by disconnecting the power to the unit for up to 30 seconds by flipping the circuit breaker off and back on. This often clears most false error codes. If the error code does not clear, then the unit more than likely may be experiencing an issue with the EOC (Electronic Oven Control) and/or user interface board. This is not a typical do it yourself job; please consult a professional or your manufacturer.
