JVC 32730 (I provided this on prior FixYa questions...). Thanks.

  • debfunk100 Jul 11, 2009

Thanks for your answer. I've never repaired TV before.....Prob have pro do it?....With that in mind:

(Just so I'm somewhat knowledgable and can figure if repair co. is for real or padding, etc.)

Are these parts easy to get/common/routine or difficult to find w/ lead time involved?

Should I order parts myself or rely on pro (incur poss. leadtime & mark up)?

    Approx. $cost/range of parts?

Approx. amount of time to replace/repair?

    Thanks,

    Deb

Thanks for the education. I need to call in a repair person (big TV & stairs), but at least I'm more knowledgeable and won't be as surprised with repair co. actions.... Thanks very much.

    Thanks or model number info.
Problem exist in vertical output section, please replace electrolytic capacitors in vertical out section.
If you want to repair it by yourself then you should have repair manual of TV and repair manual can be download from Manual Zone for small fee.

Well if pro is doing this job then let him arrange electrolytic capacitors and these are common parts that mostly available in TV repair shops.
Cost of parts can be around $60 plus TV repair charges.
In my opinion pro can return your TV next day after fix.
    Thanks.

Wavy horizontal lines across the screen

It sounds that the main power supply section to your TV has the fault. The horizontal thik lines that appears crawling down across the screen should be of video 'HUM'. Have you replaced the main filter capacitor at the power supply section? If not, replace it along with the main rectifier. The AC power is rectifed by a bridge and applied ot this main filter capcitor. It will have a capacitance value between 120 to 350MFD 450VDC. Check this section. Measure the rectifed DC voltage acorss this main filter capacitor. It should be around 350VDC, if your home power supply line is 220VAC. If it is 110AC, this DC voltage will be around 165VDC; and it should be. If rectified DC voltage found lower than the input AC voltage, replace the rectifier bridge. In some sets, this bridge section have four diodes. Some other circuits, a bridge rectifier stalk may be used.

The picture does not fill the screen on most channels. Some of the HD channels do fill the screen, but no analog stations.

There is an option for screen size from within the menu. You can choose letterbox or one of the other settings thru the remote. This is common, and is a result of the way the particular channel is broadcast, and nothing wrong with your TV set.

Line accross top of the screen with flashing black and white boxes

Thin white dashes on top of screen is PERFECTLY NORMAL. It is nothing wrong with the TV, it is the broadcast. What you are seeing is the very bottom of the timecode running. It doesn't happen all of the time or all channels. It usually happens with old 4:3 commercials predating "Digital TV." This is mentioned in your Users Manual. You should be able to adjust the horizontal/vertical position in the menu settings.

Lines across screen when using View On Demand channels

Could be a couple of things causing this.

1) Obvious, but I assume that you subscribe to these services, because otherwise it could be the encryption.

2) Make sure that you have the set-top box connected directly to the TV, and not through an external recorder (VCR, DVD etc)
This would be a problem if the services were copy protected in the same way DVDs are.

You could also check the settings on the set-topbox. Make sure the video output is set to RGB.

Faint horizontal lines in picture

This is usually caused by a problem in the Horizontal Output section, around the Horizontal Output transformer usually a capacitor or diode going or gone faulty... the line you see are the Horizontal "Retrace" lines that are useually "Hidden" when the circuit is OK..
