This is a common problem. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can fix it yourself. There is a thermo detection capacitor (round) on the main circuit board that has to be replaced. Use a low wattage soldering iron (25Watt)and electronics solder. If you aren't familiar with electronics soldering; then it's best to replace the set... repairers will charge you more than the set is worth to replace the $5 part and you can buy better ones these days. It is best to NOT wall mount these types of sets as they often overheat and fail.

Could you supply me with the chasis number from the back of the tv E>G ctc203 at113. With this information , I can tell you probably what the problem is and approximately how much it will cost to repair. Each Rca has its own set of problems. Recently RCA/GE were purchased by a large Chinese Corporation. Some of the newer sets are totally CHINESE.Here are some of the common problems that would give you this symptom. Bad connections on the IHVY(flyback). Open horizontal windings in the Yoke. The original problem is problably due to an inaccaure setting in either the red cutoff or red background. These adjustments can only be made from the servicemans menu and are not accessable to the consumer. The problems described are of a serious nature(except you original one). You may consider shopping for a new set , replacing it with an LCD. The LCD gives off no radiation and cost much less to operate (electricty) Scrivitron
