oh boy these are varied in the way to remove them, but usually under the knob is a pin, or screw and in some cases a u shaped plastic pc that locks timer to knob shaft? in some cases on the back side the shaft has to be pulled up then remove the locking pin or u shape piece to release it and wow it comes off

Need new cycle control knob for Whirlpool Model LLR8233BNO

You can order replacement parts online. Here is a site that I have used in the past.

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/top-cabinet-parts-for-whirlpool-llr8233bn0.html

There is a place to search within this model and if you type "knob" without the quotes, it will show you just the knobs for the washer.

I have a Whirlpool washer #LA8800XT and want to remove the Fabric Softener dispenser so I can remove the agitator. Does it just screw off? It seems to be stuck and I didn't want to break it if it didn't screw off.

Removeing timer switch knob

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.########) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

See the following for how to release the console:

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=d09053515715195798276a5664b79cf0

Also see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for top load, direct drive washers:

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

If this is a basic top load, direct drive washer, these units may have one of two different timers. (See the Whirlpool PDF).

On models with a metal timer, you have to release the console, pull it forward and tilt it back in order to get to the back of the timer.

The knob screws onto a medal shaft that goes through the timer.

Usually, trying to un-screw the knob won't work by itself since the shaft will also turn.

I found that if you hold the back of the shaft with a thin needle-nosed pliers, you can unscrew the knob.

Then you simply have to disconnect the timer.

The Whirlpool PDF also has troubleshooting and testing procedures for the timer.

Im replacing the timer on a whirlpool washer . how does the knob come off?

Quick and easy... I'm guessing you've already got the control panel taken apart so you can see the back of the timer. Just take out the black piece that holds the timer and knob together and attach the new timer replacing the wire mount and black knob

Removal of the timer knob.

you have two different knobs to replace?..is it the water level knob or the timer knob?
if its the timer knob you need to remove, look underneath the timer and you will find a black plastic pin depressed at the middle. pull it slowly for about 1/4 of an inch.

then you can remove the knob in the front of the timer switch.

in putting it back, install the knob first in the timer and then depressed that black plastic pin to lock the knob.

be carefull not to pull the plastic pin all the way out. it would be very hard to put it back in.

cheers,

drcool
