Why does it bog down in grass maybe 6 " high?

The likely cause of this is that the grass is too high for your mowers deck. You should try just mowing about 1/3 of the blade at a time (if you can) until you reach your desired length, so if you grass is 6" high, only take off about 2" at first to reduce the stress on your mower. Set your mower deck to it's highest setting and give it a shot.

Also, be sure that the blades are sharp, and if you don't have mulching blades, you should get some! Grass this high will leave long clippings on the lawn which can suffocate the grass, mulching blades will chop up the clippings into smaller pieces, which is beneficial for your lawn!

Finally, make sure you aren't mowing wet grass. If you mow when the grass is wet the clippings can stick together and clump up under the mowing deck which will cause excess strain to the mower and maybe even cause it to shut off.

If none of this works, you may want to use a string trimmer to remove the first two inches of your grass and then continue mowing as normal!

Hope this helps! Happy Mowing!

Clutch adjustment for engaging dec

You clutch is probably OK. This sounds like some binding in the mowing deck.

  1. Take off the deck.
  2. Clean the underside of the mowing deck.
  3. Remove the belt and be sure all the moving parts move freely. If something is bound, try to free it up with oil.
  4. Replace any bound up bearings. Bearing are a very high maintenance item on a mowing deck.
Good luck.

How do you level the mowing deck?

There should be an adjustment on both sides of the deck. Move the nut up or down to raise of lower it.

Yardman 38" 7160 the deck belt is loose

Have you been mowing high grass, and how long has the belt been on? if you have mowed tall grass or belt is older than 2 years old it needs replaced, most don't realize how much a belt stretches from mowing tall grass. I hope this has been helpful.

Mowing the lawn high and low

Mowing the lawn low and hi can only mean where are the adjusters or which is best.
The best height for grass is about 2 - inches for my nickle. There is no best - it is to your taste.
As for adjustments on your unit they are done with the handle that sets your deck height.
Let me know if after reading the instructions you still need help.

thanks

The mowing deck on craftmans lt200 is leaning to one side. this causes an uneven cut

I think one of the hangers has become disconnected. There should be a leveling procedure for this in your owners manual. If you dont have that manual ... you may find the leveling procedure at the Sears web site. Leveling procedure is pretty standard ... the basic idea is get on a level surface --- your garage --- measure from the deck to the floor on 4 corners ... make adjustments as required front to back and then side to side. Once you are on the floor ... you will see what to do.

I have a John Deere X304 that mows unevenly.

Make sure that your gauge wheels are not running on the ground during mowing, they should only hit the ground when you engage a high spot on one side.also when you level the deck the front should be a 1/2" lower than the rear.

The deck tilts down forward so the guide wheels are always in contact with the ground. how can i level the deck so it raises and lowers equally front and rear?

a mowing deck is suppose to be lower in th front than the rear usually 1/2" to 3/4" difference however if you need to adjust your deck you can go to www.deere .com and search for your owners manual and the procedures will be in the owners manual

Strange noise from deck of Toro LX426

The engine wont have an impact with the deck because its belt driven. It sure sounds like you have a bad set of spindle bearings, just turning it by hand you wont hear any noise it has to be going fast to hear it. The noise may be coming from your clutch instead of the deck, and it sounds like the deck. Have these things checked out.
