Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD505 DVD Camcorder

1 Answer

Flaky zoom My DCR-DVD505 developed a flaky zoom problem that's getting worse.  When using the zoom lever, the camera acts like there's a loose connection or dirty contact.  The zoom will not operate, and then suddenly lurch, then stop, then go again, etc.  I've found that if I wiggle the zoom lever vigorously, the problem goes away for about 20 minutes.  This is regardless of whether power is on while doing the wiggling, so I know the problem is in the lever mechanism.  But I haven't been able to figure out how to take it apart.  I'm about ready to use a hammer, since I just ordered a new HDR-CX7.

Are you are sure that the problem is in the lever?

If it is so, I have a solution!

We used to play that trick on the old Machine of 80-90s. Just put 1-2 drop of kerosin oil into the contact of the lever after opening that for a while.

Thats all.

Play that lever for number of times before turn that on.

You will get benefit for at least 1 year!

You can use non lubricated machine oil instade of kerosin oil also!

Hope for the best!

Hi!
A common problem with the W100. It can be taken apart and cleaned, but unless you have experience in things like these, I would recommend you getting a new mode switch. You can get one from here http://hop.02.lv/UQ

Mac router compatability Zoom ADSL X6

Remember it takes two to tango, so the issue may just as well be in the iMac as in the Zoom X6... Regardless of that, I had the same problem (PC works fine, iMac and PC both get flaky when the iMac is powered up). Zoom tech support suggested trying RF channels 1, 6, or 11. The router was using channel 10, changing to channel 11 calmed things down. Zoom said there wasn't anything magic in those numbers, but their testing showed those channels worked best with the Apple products.

Zoom lever (Olympus Camedia C-8080 Wide Zoom Digital Camera ) does not work

If you can get to the ribbon cable that the zoom lever is attached to, you can use a multimeter or a continuity tester to see if the lever is actually shorting any traces on the ribbon. the zoom lever acts upon a motor that rotates the iner lens barrel, possible the motor lead is open or the switch under the lever is dirty/faulty.
