Question about HP Compaq 6515b NoteBook AMD Turion 64

I have an HP Pavilion tx 1000 and until recently the fingerprint scanner (built into the laptop) worked fine. Now it has stopped working and when the software comes up, the icon showing the fingerprint scanner is "greyed out." Any ideas on this??

I tried the alcohol on the glass, didn't work. Someone else suggested re-loading the driver, I did this, didn't work. I really think it is somehow a hardware issue because the software seems to work, but the option to do anything with the actual fingerprint scanner is always grayed out. Nothing happened to the laptop physically that would have broken this, so I am at a loss. Tried rolling back before but for some reason couldn't roll back very far, and didn't help at all. Not going to do a complete restore as I don't want have to back everything up and to deal with risking losing anything, and doubt that would help anyhow. There is nothing in the hardware list that IDs the fingerprint reader, which strikes me as a bit odd. Thanks for your help, though.

The only thing i could think of is that the tiny piece of glass that's there might be dirty. Try cleaning it with a Q-tip and some isopropyl alcohol.

Run system restore to an earlier date. This should fix it.

If it does not, then do restore back to factory default but backing up all your documents.

rate this please.

The fingerprint reader login window is not detected when the notebook resumes from a Standby, Hibernate, or powered off state. Additionally, a password cannot be entered because the flashing login window defaults the cursor to the start of the entry field.
