Why is my HP Designjet z5400 only processing a PDF but will not print it without an error message coming up?

We've changed it from a PDF to an EPS, as well as preflighting. We are printing directly from the printer because it would not fully print from the computer. The JPG seems to work but it lowers the quality. I still want to know why it isn't printing the PDF.

You do not state the error message, but the first thing that I would do is ensure that you have the latest firmware for the printer installed. go to HP's website and download the current firmware and install it.

First of all, can your so called pdf open in Adobe Acrobat Reader, if not, then you need to first convert your JPG into a PDF. You need a program to do this. But if you can open it in Reader, then you need to print it from there. Try one of these solutions.

This can happen due to the firmware on the plotter, even if it happens only with some postscript files.

System error 0000D8 005D0273

Unfortunately, your error is a firmware error. Try unplugging from the wall if you can't do a normal power down. Unplug the network cable and then try plugging in and re-poer up the plotter. If the error comes back, your looking at replacing the firmware dimm. HP part number C6074-69350 on exchange or C6074-60350 new outright purchase without turn-in. Part should be available through http://partsurfer.hp.com. Below is a link for a free PDF of the HP Service Manual on your machine. When you look up your error it will refer you over to the firmware error. Go to the index at the end first as it's easier to locate the section for the error from the index.

Hope that helps you.
