Have you got it linked to anther email account?

The accounts should be separate, unless you have given exactly the details.

You should be able to log-on using the email address [email protected] and using the password you gave on setting it up.

Then check the settings, that you have not "shared" the account.

If so remove the share and you should be able to log into each account separately.

If you back up from your old account following these instructions, and then restore to your new account, then all the emails should be transferred to your new account, including the folders etc that you may have had. It has an added advantage, and that is that there will be a back up of your emails on your hard drive, and you can back up with this on a regular basis.

If you can't get into your old Gmail account I would suggest that you try resetting your password by using your old username and the "Need help?" link on the login page.

If all else fails I fear you will need to contact Gmail, explain the situation and get them to re-instate the account.

In many respects if you rely on Gmail, the programme download mentioned above could be useful in maintaining a back up of your Gmail on a PC.

Yes, it would appear gmail assigned you a new account.
To Delete the NEW account from Google:

1. Sign in to the NEW account at accounts.google.com.
2. At the top, click Data tools.
3. In the Data Tools box, click Delete products.
4. Click Remove Gmail permanently.

Now, to get into your OLD gmail account through your new smart phone, you first need to delete the NEW gmail account from the phone. I do not know what kind of phone it is, so I suggest you go into the store where you purchased the phone and ask for assistance.
Apparently, incorrect selections were made while attempting to put your OLD gmail account into the phone, and Google assigned you a gmail account based on your name. It is similar to the old account name.
The specifics of your phone's operating system prevent me from knowing how to properly help you. But it's obvious you need to delete the NEW gmail account, install the OLD gmail account, so when you tap the gmail icon, you get what you want. This is something that you have to do yourself. Just follow these steps.
Go to settings, scroll down to Accounts and tap Google, it should display accounts and [email protected] Now tap the actual email shown, it will take you to another display with the current email address.
Notice at the top right of the screen a small icon, tap it, now tap remove account. Once that is done to add duncanbarbara00@gmail com just tap add account under account, make sure to choose new or you will get the old account again.

I suggest that in your old account under Gmail settings (click the picture of a gear wheel) you select Forwarding and forward all your emails to your new account. You can also forward your contacts there.

Then set up your new account in your mobile phone. How you do that will depend on what phone and what operating system you have.

for android phone, click on the gmail app icon to open app. (if you don't already have the app, download it from the google play web site).

In the accounts section of "settings", open the "Google" account. Touch the email name listed, and in the window that appears, at the bottom you'll see a button that says "remove account". Click on that.

Then click on add account to add your new gmail account

just delete the old email off your phone. if you cant remember the password on the old email then chances are nobody else will.
