Question about LG LFX25960 Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

ER IF code and ice maker fan cycling too often

On my two year old LFX25960 I have had ice maker problems (ER IF code) from the first few months. I have learned to raise the frig and freezer temperatures, and unplug the the frig for 15 minutes while having the the freezer drawer open to fix the problem. This has been happening every few weeks, but it has worked for these many months.

About four weeks ago the ice maker fan started making a louder noise, and the ER IF code comes on regularly. The ice maker fan noise has now returned to normal, but the ice maker fan constantly cycles every 30 seconds, no ice is being made, and within a couple of hours the ER IF code appears most of the time (till I clear it by unplugging the frig.). When the code appears the fans stops altogether.

Do I need to replace the ice maker fan? Or, is it a sensor not working correctly which is causing the ice maker fan to cycle every 30 seconds? If I am needing to replace the ice maker fan, how do I go about replacing it? I believe it is located at the upper back part of the freezer compartment. Any iformation would be appreciated.

Thank you. I thought this would be a design defect. Since the refrig is about 2 years old, and I have complained about it in the first few months, do I have a chance that they would fix the problem. Perhaps I could work with LG to send me the parts and I fix it myself? What do you think?

Regardless, I will be fixing this myself. Would you estimate it would take about 2 hours of my time to replace all the parts? I am concerned about the control board replacement.

This solution was very helpful. I now know which direction I need to go to correct the problem with the manufacturer. I planning to replace the parts myself.

Hi,

IF is the Ice Fan failure code. The fan that sends cold air to the ice maker is frozen. Unplugging and defrosting does not solve the problem. Mine was fixed as a warranty item when I complained to LG since I had a similar problem earlier with the refrigerator fan within the warranty period. The fix consists of replacing the ice maker fan and housing (the new housing has a drain hole to prevent freeze-up), replacing the freezer duct housing (again with design improvements), and a new control board (presumably with new defrost programming).

Hope i helped.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Hi,

As it's already 2 years, they would not ACCEPT it. I really apologize for being so blunt, However, this is what i have seen.

It depends on person to person. Usually this is not a Big fix. It might take 2-5 hours depending on the capability of a person. I agree control board replacement is an issue, but if we have to change it, we have to. There is nothing that you or we can do.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya '.

I have a Kenmore Elite Refrigerator, Model No. 795.77573600. The ice and water dispenser give the error message Er 1F. In searching online it appears that this problem is related to the ice compartment...

This is an error code for the icemaker fan motor.
If the control does not see a signal coming back from the fan motor you will get this error code.
Please see the image below from the service manual that explains the ER IF error code.

The ER IF code indicates a failure of the icing fan.

You may notice slower ice production but the other fans should be okay.

You can select the ultra ice option and see if the fan toggles on.

The fan or the control is bad.

I have a lg lfx25960sb,it is showing ER IF code on the panel above ice /water door, also not making ice?

ER IF indicates that the ice maker fan is not working. The fan is probably frozen. Remove the fan duct and housing at the back of the freezer and you may be able to defrost the ice in the fan enclosure. It will not defrost sufficiently by turning the freezer off for 2 to 4 hours as LG suggests. The fan may have frozen because of high humidity or because the defrost cycle is not working. If your unit is still under warranty LG should fix it by replacing the fan, duct panel and control board with new ones that have been re-engineered to prevent this problem.

Er if code on display

ER means Error code......
The If error message indicates that the fan for the ice maker has failed. The main control board receives a feedback signal from this fan motor for the ice maker. If the feedback signal is abnormal or missing, then the error message will be displayed. The fan motor for the ice maker could be bad. You could also have a bad wiring connection between the motor and the control board. A remote possibility would be that the control board is bad. This is not likely since you noticed the ice melting in your storage bucket.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair this failure.

Roaring sound

I have had the same issues. I have owned my LFX25960 for 18 months. All the cooling, noise, and condensation problems are related to 2 fans. One for the freezer/refrigerator compartments and One for the Ice Maker. The fans, apparently, are not sufficient to move enough air through the coils located behind a plastic panel in the freezer compartment. The part numbers for my fans are 1. Ice Maker 4681JB1029E and Refrig/Freezer 4681JK1004E. It is not impossible, but fairly difficult to replace them yourself. You have to remove the large slide out freezer drawer and glides. Then work the back freezer panel loose from the bottom. Be careful not to break it. It is plastic.
Routine maintenance: Pull the refrig out from the wall and blow-out the coils and fan located on the lower right rear. You might find it easier to do this by removing the cover on the lower, back of the refrig.

Error message on LG Refrigerator

The message is ERROR ICE FAN. You can order a new one from LG for around $65 and if you know someone handy they can probably put it in by just eyeballing the old one. WARNING>>>>this must be someone with common sense and some degree of problem solving skills as it does not come with the fan blades and that must be switched. This is a common problem with this model and usually the ice fan goes out in about 12-20 months. Use your owners manual to figure out how to get the door off and access the fan. Also, Lg employees are confused and may try to tell you there is just one fan......they did tell me that!

The ER IF is part # 46811B1029E---The ER FF (freezer fan) is part # 4681JK1004E and only a skilled repairman can modify them to be interchanged.

ER IF means error icing fan, the problem is with a little board that is behind the water dispenser. Change this board and you will be in business.

Getting Error Code "er if"

I posted a similar problem with the er if code. I think I have isolated it down to the ice maker fan problem. It appears that the master unit is not getting the correct code from the ice maker fan. I managed to get rid of the problem by dumping the ice, turning the ice maker off (there is a switch next to the ice maker), and unplugging the unit for three minutes and plugging it back in. However, I am without an ice maker. But the problem has not returned and the rest of the unit seems to work normally.

Hope this helps.
