There's a pretty neat program called "sharepod" that will do it for you or you can have service do it for you. They can even get your music if your iPod is broken - iPod Repair.
Maybe you could try "Daniusoft IPod transfer" - It can help youtransfer music/video files during ipod, iTunes, computer as your will.I all through use it for my ipod touch 8gb. Below are some of itsfeatures:
1. Backup videos/songs from computer to iPod directly ; 2. Transfer iPod to computer smoothly ; 3. Transfer iPod video/music to iTunes .
I'll give you one funny trick which I have tried myself, Do you know how to unhide hidden folders on your PC?, if so, do that, if not, (this is how you do it : Open any page, click on tools, Folder options, then View tab, then Click and select 'Show hidden folders'). After this, open My computer and locate the IPOD drive and Open it, you should see some fade folders (These are the folders where songs on your IPOD are, It is normally hidden,) ..open them one after the other, the names of the folders as well as the songs would have changed though, but just do it. Another easier option is, to copy ALL the hidden folders there to another location, then right click on the folders and Unhide them, then tell the Windows Media Player, or any other player you wish to use to scan for songs from those folders. Hope it helps you out!

I am having the same problem earlier described as ''Macbook pro does not detect dig 002 rack'', although the system is different. I have an Imac running Snow Leopard (10.6) with Pro Tools 7.4.2., and I am trying to run Itunes through the digi hardware. This is a new computer, and a fresh install of PT. PT works fine, although the firewire interface is having to be daisy chained through an external drive to convert the 002's FW 400 to FW 800 (the only FW port offered on this Imac). The Core Audio program recognizes the 002, as well as an older Mbox, but neither appear in the Apple >Sound >Other preferences...inexplicably the Mbox 2 and Mbox2 Pro do appear however. clicking on these to attempt to reset the sound preferences will make the 002 appear in the Sound Preferences under internal, but not an icon in Other, and nothing seems to allow Itunes to work this way. restarting doesn't work, Itunes seems to always reset the sound preference to internal. Any ideas? I would delete associated preferences if I knew which ones to delete. Also curious if there might not be a Digidesign 7.4.x update that will solve this bug since it seems like a PT glitch. Thanks in advance to anyone offering an easy fix to what seems a common problem
