There are a couple reasons a pen refill won't start writing right away. The first thing to check is the tip--often there is a bit of glue or plastic over it in order to prevent leaking.
If that doesn't work, then try one (or both) of the following two methods:
1) Place the refill (but not the tip) in some warm water. Heat will allow the liquid in the gel pen to become thinner and flow more naturally.
2) Hook a rubber band around the middle of the pen, using tape to ensure safety, and wind the pen while holding the rubber band on either side of the pen. Make sure the cap is on the pen. When the rubber band is tight, when you pull straight out on the rubber band from both sides of the pen, it should spin very quickly. The centripetal force will cause the liquid in the pen (at least half of it) to move toward the tip.
Make sure you fasten the rubber band to the pen with tape or something similar; otherwise the pen may go flying off at someone nearby. Also, again, make sure the cap is on to prevent any ink spraying out--this is unlikely in a gel pen, but it could happen.
Although a laser pointer may not look it, they can be very dangerous. While they can be a very effective tool for drawing your audience's attention to things in your presentations, using them for other purposes can cause a lot of damage. Following a few simple safety tips will ensure that no one will get hurt while you're presenting.
- Never point your laser pointer at an other person, especially not the face. Just because a laser pointer may not be dangerous when pointed at the skin of another person it is still a good practice to never use it to point at people.
- Never look directly into the laser beam, even if you are sure that the strength of the laser is not high. Even a low powered beam can cause some damage to the eyes. Eye damage can be permanent so it shouldn't be treated lightly.
- Check for reflective surfaces before you present with a laser pointer. If the beam is reflected off an other surface such as a mirror or glass can be just as dangerous as pointing it directly into some one's eyes.
- There is something about a laser pointer that makes people act like children. I have been in many college lectures where a lecturer will use a laser pointer to make emphasis in class and students will ask to play with the pointer. Under no circumstance should you allow someone else to use your laser pointer, especially in a classroom full of people.
If you feel uneasy about using a laser pointer in your presentation you might want to look into using your computer mouse as a laser pointer. Microsoft powerpoint has a feature that will allow you to use the mouse pointer as a laser pointer on the screen. That by far will be the safest laser pointer.
Before removal of tie-rod ends for service or replacement, tape or secure a pen-type laser pointer to the face of the brake rotor toward the front of the vehicle. Secure steering, turn on laser and clean, then mark the spot on inside of wheelwell where light dot lands with perm marker. This is reference point for re-install to previous position of alignment. Some pointers vary in quality, but if secured properly, will work just fine. Some rotors may need to be secured to hubs, usually with a lug nut or two, and upper and/or lower ball joints need to be assembled at least snug to assure correct position before and after service. Have used this method a few times and have not had to pay an alignment charge since. -Fred
Hi Sir. Please look carefully at your usb pen-drive to see if there is a small switch on there somewhere that is used to lock and unlock the drive. perhaps you may have accidentally put it in the lock position. If there is a laser pointer on the drive then using the laser pointer may have caused you to accidentally switch to the write protected mode. most drives have a lock/unlock switch on the pen-drive itself...unless it has a program installed on the drive that has encrypted and locked the drives read/write ability. was it a ball-point or ink pen tip???
if it is ball-pint. then all you have to do is get a refill cartridge from any of the office supply store or specialty shop.
if it is a fountain pen tip, then you have to send it back to cross for repair.
The winning answer came courtesy of Mr Benedikt Schmitt of Wacom Europe, who offered the following solution: from the Windows Device Manager, disable the “Wacom Virtual Hid Driver” device. (Go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Device Manager, find the driver, right-click it and choose “Disable”.) One reboot later (welcome to Windows-land, circa 2008?), everything works as desired. Pressure and tilt sensitivity inside Photoshop still work, and the pen functions just fine in the rest of the Windows desktop. The absolute mapping makes it an absolute pleasure to point quickly and precisely. It makes my laser mouse feel rather clumsy navigating a large 24′ screen!
